For some reason I've been reading a lot about past present and future Minnesota University Dmen and was hoping to get some more opinions about these four guys. Who do you like, who do you not like? Who has the best NHL future? Who doesn't have a future at all? Stuff like that. Thanks!

Keith Ballard
Michael Vanneli
Alex Goligoski
RJ Anderson

Ballard: Of all the D men to come out of thr gophers in the last few years, Ballard may have the biggest upside. He has a very good slapper, goes high and low. Will jump up and can score in close and T up a solid one timer. Will play physical. Skates well and uses the hip check. Can manuever around forcheckers or skate right by them. Very good on the PP. On the other hand, he has tendency to get almoat reckless out there. Crashing the net like a forward and giving up odd man rushes. Will go for big hits and whiff. Plays hard but not controlled. Best case senerio he mey be like Gonchar, worst case Andrei Zyuzin.

Vanelli: Played timid early in the season. Looked better at the end. Was jumping up more and making things happen. Needed some work in his own zone. Should be a break out year, if he is destened for one. Will play top 4 d spots to start the year.

Goligowski: Was going to become a goph when Ballard left. A very o minded d man. Played in MN HS the last year. Playing in the USHL at the end of his junior and senior year of HS. Has some big shoes to fill. Preseason all rookie NCAA, 2nd round draft choice.

Anderson: Is not even a gopher yet. Is a senior at Centennial HS in MN. His team won the state title for AA. MN HS can be easy at times. I know other big program like to play ech other and some HS teams will play Shattucks and other junior teams. Probally will end up in USHL by the end f the year. Another in a long line of O minded D men.

Another gopher d man. Chris Harrington, may be the best NCAA free aganet out there. Is just a junior but is the gophers leading returning scorer. Plays great at both ends.

Nate Hagemo: Ask a Wisconsin fan how good he is. Originally signed with them then choose the gophers. Was supposed to be a future pairing with Suter and WI was very happy with that.

As a team the gophers avg around 5 goals a game and are over 30% on the PP. In large part to good puck moving d man that step up in the play. Leopold and Martin have made it just fine. I would expect Donny L to keep producing o minded d man.

Goligoski is a cult favorite amongst Penguins fans and beat writers.
