I barely even noticed him.
You don't understand what's going on on the rink then. He won almost all puck-battles, stole tons of pucks, won a lot of face-offs, was almost every time in the right place, was dangerous every time with the puck and did a huge job with o-zone forchecking. All of this despite being... what, 39? Just a great player.

They did their best, they just didn't have enough skill... At least, half the team are glorious 4th liners by the NHL standarts. We could get better players, but Znaroks prefered grinders over skill, he always does.
They were never there for skill.. Znarok had a clear strategy of Balancing the team, so players like Kovy can focus on creativity and let the other cover them up. Hence Kovy Andronov and Telegin line.

Znarok managed to have more balance in his team than Bill, and Bykov. But to be fair, with a talented layer of youngsters coming through Znarok had a lot more to work with than Bill 4 years ago.

Yeah, he did great balancing work, when he had the only line, that could play hockey and score. Such a great balance! He's lucky that only line saved his ass.

Ye he did! Only 2 players on this team left the tourny without a point - Shipachyov and Marchenko.
11 Players scored, with main scoring coming from 2 lines- Dats and Kovy. They had the best goal differential, good PK and PP and good shot differential too. Balanced team!

Man, I don't even wanna think about, what a semi decent NHL team could do to this Znaroks team...

That's right. After line realignment OAR had 1 creative line and 3 grinding. Sort of a balance, in Znarok's way. But - not Znarok won this Olympics. Someday we will realize that.

Doesn't matter how they all played against monstrous Slovenia and Norway. Dats line got All goals in the final. ALL of them.
They scored game-winning goal in semis, and were the only line that dominated their opposition in the first period

Lol, Why would it not matter how they played against Slovenia and Norway? Was that not part of getting to the final?? Otherwise you're saying that they could've just done it with this one line... pfft

Datsyuk had a textbook performance in this game. He explained why centers are the most influential players on the rink.
He deserved the membership.

Do the math, thats impossible unless you think Barabanov, Grigorenko, Mozyakin and Kovy are grinders.. ?? give me a break

You guys don't have credible arguments. The fact is this coaching TEAM has been handpicking players for the last 4-5 years to avoid the unbalanced rosters of the past, when we had Afino f***ing genov playing on PK.

Yeah, they probably could.
But the things is: one minute before the end of the 3 period, no one would give a f.. about "getting to the final"

You're right! Because you wouldn't MAKE it to the final without a balanced team..

Even Gretzky would become a grinder in that line.
Barabanov and Grigorenko were turned into grinders.
Mozyakin - of course he's not. too bad for him! that's why he had limited ice time

And I don't say that balance is an unnecessary thing. Sure it is.
It's better to have a strangely balanced team that a team without any balance. But in the end - in the final OAR were minute away from being beaten by a total underdog, just because only 1 line could score against tight opposition

This was also a DEL vs KHL matchup. I like when leagues you dont expect puts up a fight against he big boys. No doubt Germany deserved to be in the final after the wins they had and they put up an excellent fight against OAR.

Thanks for an awesome final and grats to OAR with the gold!!

Lets all enjoy the tournament for what it was and hope NHL and IOC (or the chinese money men) can throw enough money at the NHL owners for 2022.

So the OAR wins only two gold medals, but they turned out to be somewhat unpopular wins (hockey, Zagitova).

Most of us were rooting for Germany and the OAR skater many wanted to see win gold (Evgenia Medvedeva) alas didn’t.

Didn't get to see the game, but congrats to the boys from Deutschland on the silver medal. I hope this inspires 20 new Leon Draisaitls. See you on Tuesday May 15 in Denmark.
