Figured I'd start a thread on how the goaltending duo's are going to end up for the start of the 17/18 season. Here is my prediction:

Anaheim: Gibson, Bernier
Arizona: Smith, Domingue
Boston: Rask, Subban
Buffalo: Lehner, Budaj
Calgary: Fleury, Johnson
Carolina: Darling, Lack
Chicago: Crawford, Berra
Colorado: Pickard, Varlamov
Columbus: Bobrovsky, Korpisalo
Dallas: Bishop, Lehtonen
Detroit: Mrazek, Howard
Edmonton: Talbot, Brossoit
Florida: Luongo, Reimer
Los Angeles: Quick, Condon
Minnesota: Dubnyk, McElhiney
Montreal: Price, Montoya
Nashville: Rinne, Saros
New Jersey: Schneider, Wedgewood
NY Islanders: Greiss, Halak
NY Rangers: Lundqvist, Raanta
Ottawa: Anderson, Hammond
Philadelphia: Mason, Neuvirth
Pittsburgh: Murray, Miller
San Jose: Jones, Dell
St Louis: Allen, Hutton
Tampa Bay: Vasilevski, Pavelec
Toronto: Andersen, Kuemper
Vancouver: Elliott, Markstrom
Vegas: Niemi, Ward
Washington: Holtby, Grubauer
Winnipeg: Hellebuyck, Hutchinson

Switch Bishop to Philly and I'd be happy. As far as I know it looks like Philly isnt keeping the current duo.

Nvm Bishop's going to Dallas.

Boston: Rask, Subban

Khudobin is still signed for next season, so I imagine he'd have the inside track for the backup spot unless he's taken by Vegas or bought out. Feels like Zane McIntyre has leapfrogged Subban on the depth chart as well.

Chicago: Crawford, Berra

Berra signed a multiyear deal to return to Switzerland, albeit it apparently does contain an out clause if an NHL job presented itself. But it does feel likely that Berra will be headed overseas.

Edmonton: Talbot, Brossoit

After the amount of minutes that Talbot played this season, I'd guess that Edmonton would try to get a more proven backup.

Los Angeles: Quick, Condon

Kings still might be close to the cap, so Zatkoff/Campbell might get the first crack unless Condon came cheap. Condon could get a better deal (and more playing time) staying in Ottawa.

New Jersey: Schneider, Wedgewood

Kinkaid was an adequate backup (.916 sv%), so he should land a job somewhere. Wedgewood is coming off a shoulder injury which kept him off the ice for most of the season. I'd be a little hesitant to pencil him for the backup job.

Pittsburgh: Murray, Miller

Geography seemed to play a factor with Miller previously. Not sure if he'd take a discount to backup one of the California teams or possibly Vegas.

Vegas: Niemi, Ward

Unless they were being given picks/assets to take Niemi/Ward, I think there are more attractive options.

Korpisalo could possibly be taken in the expansion draft.. I wouldn't count on him as the CBJ backup just yet.

I really don't think Ward would appreciate being forced to relocate mid-contract, considering his family situation here. And I don't see the Canes aggressively pushing him out the door by bribing Vegas to take him.

With the expansion draft, it's pretty much a fools game to try to predict this right now. I expect Vegas to take assets like Grubauer, Raanta and Pickard before they take bribes to draft guys like Ward and Niemi. There's probably a few teams you probably know their starter and backup as they already have theirs in place and obviously have better assets for Vegas to take but all the teams with decent enough backups that Vegas may take or guys without a signed backup yet, you're probably going to get at least 80% of those wrong.

Also, every team has to expose a goalie so there's a fair chance that teams will have a goalie signed simply just for the ED. Philly seems to be an example of that right now.

Ott will buy out Hammond (shocker) before letting him be the back up. That ship has sailed. Im really hoping them lock down Condon for two more years, unless his agent thinks he can find a long term deal.

Agreed, would never happen. Lack will be dumped for futures/a 7th or bought out.

And thirded. I think Ward would be more likely to retire than go elsewhere given his son's treatment, but that's a moot point because I think we're more likely to expose Lack than Ward for the expansion draft.

Yeah, there's no way Vegas doesn't have at least one of Grubauer, Raanta, Korpisalo, Pickard as at least the back-up over two pricey washed-up vets, especially after the recent successes of young back-ups getting starting jobs (Murray, Talbot, Jones, etc.).

Wouldn't they protect Darling, meaning that both Ward and Lack get exposed? (or at least Lack bought out and then having Ward exposed)

I'd guess the Canes are more likely to lose Nordstrom or PDG in the expansion draft then Ward or Lack. Tandem is likely Darling/Ward and the Canes trade Lack for any pick they can get, or worst case just bury the contract in the AHL.
