Should we be worried about the prospect goalies?

Hogberg 0.878
Gustavsson 0.867

Is it really the lack of D?

No real great games from either one of them
Mann said after last night the D and the goaltending has to get better.
Expected better from Hogberg personally

If it was just Gustavsson I'd be more worried. But Högberg has shown himself to be at least a pretty good AHL goalie.

I wouldn't say it is just the D though. That's a really young team down there. Top players Formenton, Norris, Batherson, Abramov are 21 and under. Lajoie and Brown are 22. Davidsson and Veronneau are rookies in the league. And most of the veterans aren't all that good. I get that it is a development league, but top AHL teams aren't primarily built on 21 year old prospects.

Still early in the process. That said, everyone needs to be better, including tenders. They could really use Brännström down there.

- Anderson should likely get traded this yr & Nilsson should likely take over the #1 job from him. Hogberg would likely move up to be the backup for the remainder of the season.

- next season Nilsson will be in his last yr of his contract, depending on what kind of a yr he has whether he gets re-signed or traded for some assets. Hogberg will be interesting to watch next season whether he has what it takes to be an NHL backup goalie.

- should also be interesting battle between Gustavsson & Daccord in Belleville next season & Mandolese going to the ECHL. Still waiting to see if Ottawa has an Anderson replacement for the future, Nilsson seems the most likely candidate now, but how long will he last in that position? And do Hogberg, Gustavsson or Daccord look like they might be able to replace him anytime soon?

I think at this point we need to cut ties with Andy, I know we’re not deep in the season but he just isn’t playing good enough, (2-6, 3.2 GAA, .897).

I know we’re in a tank and all that but Nilsson, at this point, is being a lot better.

I don't think you dump Andy for the sake of it, the guy has been too good a soldier for too long to get that treatment.

That being said, we eventually need to see some more starts from Hogberg at the NHL level to determine what to do with him. Lots around here were high on him after last season, but personally, I'm not convinced he's a guy who will cut it at the NHL level. With Gus/Daccord needing more seasoning in the AHL beyond this season we really need to figure out what we have in Hogberg so that moves can be made in the off-season to insulate Nilsson/Gus/Daccord.

The hog has been outstanding since the call up.

Do you think this is because he has better goaltending coaches up with the big club? He is better than ever.

I think he just found his groove, the question is how long does this last...

Is there a consensus on who will be the #1 next year?

And what of the kid they drafted Sogaard? is the perception of him, valuable? or a reach?

What's up with Nilsson? He's been gone a month, isn't even skating. I'm getting out for the season/Clarke MacArthur vibes.

I heard he was getting closer. 2-3 weeks

Nilsson (concussion) has yet to resume skating and still has no clear timetable for a return, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Nilsson missed his 14th straight game Saturday while recovering from a concussion he suffered in mid-December. The team is hopeful that the netminder can resume skating and get healthy over the upcoming All-Star break. In the meantime, Marcus Hogberg and Craig Anderson will continue to handle goaltending duties“

I think this could go one of two ways:
1. Anderson is traded & Nilsson becomes the #1 goalie & Hogberg becomes the backup.
2. Nilsson is traded because someone was willing to pay a lot more for him than Anderson. Anderson than remains & signs a 1 yr deal & splits time with Hogberg mentoring him for another yr or two. Hogberg has shown that he has the potential to be a good NHL goalie, although it's quite early given all the other times Ottawa goalies have had a good run only to lose it the following yr. Maybe this guy is different, hope so.

is there a danger in a repeat of the Anderson, Lehner, Bishop scenario of 5/6 years ago?

The expansion draft makes our goalie situation really interesting. Without a side deal, they will only be able to protect one goalie. While a year should buy the team more clarity, that's going to be a very difficult choice. They will be forced to project who their best bet is in net much earlier than they otherwise would have been forced to.

I am a bit worried that they try and trade one prior to the expansion draft
