With the acquisitions of Booth, Staal, and Boddkker we've improved our team speed, defense, and offensive ability. Any time a team loses a player of Heatley's quality, it hurts, but we believe David Booth will nearly replace him on his own. Adding a selke caliber center who will pot 20 goals and 50-60 points along with a two-way burner with 70 point upside to Clowe and Couture, makes this teams forward core a dramatic improvement over the last one. Not to mention the average age of the newcomers is 24. In addition, we also added the Rob Blake replacement the team needed last year in Pavel Kubina. Kubina offers Blake's size, first pass, net clearing ability, big shot, and ability to eat big minutes. Finally the team brought long-time fan favorite Evgeni Nabokov bolstering the team's back end. We certainly saw a drop off with Antti Niemi coming in for Nabokov, but believe Nabokov and Niittymaki provides us with some of the best goaltending in the league. More importantly, having a second starter in Niittymaki means that Evgeni will only play 55 or so games, keeping him fresh for the playoffs. In our opinion, this is the best Shark's team yet.
