The way I see it

Hedman > Rielly
McDonagh < Gardiner
Stralman = Zaitsev
Sergachev = Dermott
Girardi = Hainsey
Coburn = Carrick

We are in the same ballpark when it comes to comparing dmen with Tampa.

I agree with most of this, but the Gardiner/McDonagh comparison.

Hedman > Rielly I agree and by a large margin.
McDonagh < Gardiner I agree
Stralman = Zaitsev I disagree. Zaitsev looks good defensively because he works hard. He's only good with WAR/GAR metrics but is bad everywhere else. Stralman is close to an analytics darling.
Sergachev = Dermott I will leave out my criticism here as Sergachev started out strong in the beginning, but I heard about him less as the season went on.
Girardi = Hainsey Sure. Girardi improved with tampa, but was so awful when he signed that contract with nyr. Actually, Hainsey may be better, but I'll stay out of this one.
Coburn = Carrick I disagree. The argument for Carrick is if we consider contracts. Coburn is an average 2nd pairing d-man while carrick is a 3rd pairing d-man.

We are in the same ballpark when it comes to comparing dmen with Tampa.

I'd say Sergachev is better than Dermott for now all things considered (although that could change); Stralman is better than Zaitsev for sure, unless he has a huge bounce back season; and McDonagh is at least slightly better than Gardiner

Bit of a stretch here. Stralman is better defensively, McDonagh is more of the kind of playoff defenseman you want compared to Gardiner, and I'd rather have Sergachev than Dermott...

Coburn is a 2nd pairing wat

He's a 6th/7th at best... Trending down.
Carrick is 3rd pairing at worst but his analytics suggest he could be a 2nd pairing now.

My question is what is he going to do with all those goalies? They should be used as extras in some kind of deal no?

Goalies have little value. Better to go into camp with all of them; this way you get to choose the best one for a back-up instead of guessing now which one will work out in a couple months.

If this was a thread from last year, McDonough would be the clear cut winner over Gardiner. However, McDonaugh has been regressing while gardiner is adjusting to top pairing. Gardiner has that negative stigma because he blew one game...badly. I would actually take Gardiner over mcdonagh.

Coburn is still serviceable. His shot suppression is a lot better than Carrick. Carrick can barely make the leafs team and while he does generate shots, his positional game, discipline and confidence is not there yet.

Their D is easily better.
Hedman > Rielly
McDonagh >= Gardiner
Stralman > Zaitsev (easily)
Sergachev > Dermott (I love Dermott, but Sergachev has offensive skills that Dermott doesn't possess while also being defensively similar)
Girardi < Hainsey
Coburn < Carrick

we are no where near the same ballpark as tampa imo. Hedman is an elite #1 defenseman who is probably top 5 in the league. that in itself makes them significantly better in the position.

McDonagh just had an awful playoffs. I agree about Stralman and maybe Sergachev (although he cooled off considerably at the end of the year and playoffs).

Mcdonagh's deal is scary. He already look slow and past-his-prime. I am not a fan of his. Yzerman will regret it.
