Minny is still a point behind the Avs in the standing with four more games to go for Minny and five more games to go for the Avs. If the Wild plan on having home ice advantage, then they have to win out. Either way, it appears most likely the Avs and Wild will be paired up in the playoffs because the Blues are 15 points below the Wild with only five more games left. I think Minny is striving for home ice advantage.

Let's see what the Ducklings can do against another playoff team. The Ducks did beat the Blues two nights ago.

Buffalo has sealed the #1 position with only one game left and the Ducks are four points ahead of Buffalo. With a Ducks win tonight, things get a bit murky in position. With a Ducks loss tonight, then we secured either #2 or #3 spot. Vancouver could win a couple more games with eight games left and that would secure the #2 spot for the Ducks if the Ducks lose tonight.

Player Spotlight: Anthony Stolarz

In 2016-17, it appeared that Philly had found itself a good prospective netminder. So good that the Flyers protected him from the 2017 Vegas Expansion Draft. The following year, Stolarz had to have two surgeries. Since then, Stolarz has been through two more organizations, landing with the Ducks in 2019-20 season. It is here were Stolarz was able to find his groove back that made the Flyers protect him in the Vegas expansion draft in 2017.

Now, finding his groove again at age 27, Anthony finds himself in another expansion draft situation, this time the new team is from Seattle. Stolarz was able to find himself back to his old self, pre-injuries and improve upon it. And standing to a height of 6'5", Stolarz can cover a lot of net while on his knees.

Anaheim can protect only one goalie and that would be John Gibson. Anthony is under contract for the next two seasons worth $0.95 mil each season. With Stolarz flourishing, Seattle may pick him up for themselves or to trade to another team. Either way Stolarz is back on the NHL scene.

Hayden Fleury

At the trade deadline, Anaheim traded for Fleury by sending Carolina RHD Hakanpaa and a 2022 sixth round pick. Fleury was buried behind a lot of defensive talent in Carolina despite being drafted 7th overall in the 2014 draft. All we knew from reports is he's fast and good on the defensive zone.

It looks like there is some offense in Fleury when given more minutes. Fleury took some time to finally start blossoming in Anaheim as Eakins told him he has the green light to join the offense. Here is a split between the first six games with Anaheim and the last five games:

It is in these last five games that Fleury went from "we could possibly lose him in the expansion draft" to "we have to protect him in the expansion draft". His confidence is brimming now than looking like just a tall defenseman who can skate fast. At 6'4 and 216 pounds, it appears Anaheim might have a gem on their hands and quickly makes Anaheim have great depth once again on the blue line. Fleury might be fulfill the expectations of being drafted 7th overall.

Projected 2021-22 blue line
Lindholm-Drysdale
Fowler-Manson
Fleury-Shattenkirk
Larsson

Then there are AHL prospects developing in LHD Benoit (defensive d), LHD Mahura (offensive d), LHD Curran (offensive d), and RHD Andersson (defensive d). Anaheim has two college guys heading into their season in LHD LaCombe (two-way) and LHD Thrun (defensive d).

If Fleury is to be protected along with Lindholm, Fowler, and Manson, then the Ducks will go with protection option of 8 skaters and 1 goalie.

Hoping they can continue their good play even if they lose. Guys are stepping up and the effort has really impressed me. I’ve been looking forward more to the Ducks games and hope they can at least end the season on a high note.

All of our games against Minnesota have stunk this year so hopefully the new top line can make the final games at least watchable

I didn't know what penultimate meant until like three years ago. Just figured it meant super important and cool. Nope!

It’s been a pretty fun last 2 weeks of a miserable season. Let’s finish strong and get some momentum going into the offseason

The difference between drafting 1st or 6th is negligible this year.
I want their 1st choice not their 6th? and you won't know that for 3-5 more years.

I simply made a statement of fact backed up by the fact that the draft ratings for the top 8-10 prospects are all over the board. I've seen Owen Power as high as 1st and as low as 8th. Ducks did pretty well drafting 9th and 6th in the last couple of years. Enjoy the last two games and root for a win. It will do your heart good. Vancouver is not going to lose all of their remaining games.

Did benoit have a rough one last game or something?

I don't think so, could be the standard rest they're doing on a back to back or that Larsson has looked good lately, but I'm not convinced that's anything other than playing with Fowler
