Bruins on their way to Ohio to take on another team new to the Eastern Conference way of life. The Blue Jackets will be without prized free agent signing and ol' pal Nathan Horton as he recovers from off-season shoulder surgery.

After a 5-20 start to the '13 season, the Bus narrowly missed the playoffs, finishing ninth in the West with 55 points but losing the tiebreaker to 8th seed Minnesota. Columbus won their final regular season game but when Minnesota and Detroit also won their season finales, the Blue Jackets missed their opportunity to experience playoff hockey.

Last game (10-10-13): Columbus dragged Buffalo all over the ice, winning 4-1 and getting goals from Cam Atkinson, Brandon Dubinsky, Nick Foligno and Marian Gaborik as Sergei Bobrovsky saved 27 of 28 shots.

Talkers:

  • Defending all the offense that came to Columbus via both the Rick Nash trade (Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov and prospect Tim Erixon) AND trade deadline addition Marian Gaborik.
  • Dealing with a healthy James Wisniewski on the blue line.
  • Meeting talented and hearlded rookie defender Ryan Murray.
  • Bob. He's no JS Giguere, but he's pretty good and does have some shiny hardware with his name on it.
  • If present upstairs, what color jacket will Horton be wearing?

GDT will be up at some point Friday. No clue when.

Way too early in the season for Saturday matinees.

But I guess that's how they roll in the land of houses and zoos.

2pm sucks.

I won't miss the whole thing but I will likely miss part if it.

This is a must win. Clode might have lost the room the last night. Eriksson is garbage. Krejci is the biggest embellisher of ALL TIME. Trade for a soft fast skating winger. Chara's too old and slow.

K I think I covered all of the bases. ;)

I'm going to the Providence game in Lewiston so this is the one time I like the afternoon start. I can't wait to watch Spooner in person.

An afternoon game acually works well for me tomorrow so, for once, I'm thrilled with the early start time.

Much like Seguin had to be locked up in his hotel during the playoffs, the Bruins need security detail in front of the room of every player with a family. We can't have them visiting the zoo......or the park.......or any sort of fair. Does Ohio State play tomorrow? Maybe the guys can to there. Surely, that can't be a family environment.

I like watching Bruins games in the afternoon because then I can drink a ton of beer starting at 1:30 without any iota of guilt. However the Bruins always STINK playing matinee games and I end up drinking a ton too much and I'm hammered at 4pm.

Bruins were 6-2 in matinee games last year.

Collectively over my lifetime they are usually bad in afternoon weekend games, so it will take a few years of success for me to change my attitude I guess is what it is. :dunno:

Definitely. They improved last year, but overall, matinee games aren't the best over the past couple of years...

Really looking to see the top-6 get their chemistry together. First ~5 games are warmup games, especially with all the changes we made, but they should start to get in the groove. Also have to figure out if we're keeping Caron or Smith on the RW when Yeti is ready.

People have mentioned swapping Iginla and Eriksson if they don't click after a while(a while as in like not 3-10 games.) I wonder if a better swap would be swapping Bergeron and Krejci? Just curious to see if it would have more of a spark if it came down to changing up the top 6. (I'm not saying do this now whatsoever.)

I think 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 really tainted a lot of people's perceptions. Looking at the numbers, the B's have actually had a winning record in matinee games in 3 out of the last 6 years.....and in one of those bad years, they were only one game below .500, so it wasn't THAT bad.
