Glove passes allowed only in defensive zone, why not everywhere?

I always thought it was intended to prevent players from intentionally gloving it in the defensive zone to get a faceoff.

It shouldn't be allowed at all. It's cheap regardless of where it is on the ice.

I think the dumbest thing players do is when their stick breaks they stand around like idiots instead of grabbing a stick.

We should hike the pucks to the goalie and thrown Hail Marys too.

You were never allowed to pass the puck with your hand. The rule was changed because guys were doing it to get a faceoff on purpose and in your own end. Now it is only blown dead outside the defensive zone.

Should be allowed as long as the hand doesn't close. You can intentionally guide it with the shoulder, knee, foot, head, forearm, ass, whatever, what's the reasoning behind no hand?

This is the real reason.

In the offensive/neutral zone it gives teams an advantage to make a hand pass, there is no downside. In the defensive zone when you make a hand pass, it happens when your team is under immense pressure and you are trying to bat down a puck or diving on the ground trying to get it away from the forecheck. In that scenario whistling the play down and having a faceoff is not really a punishment to the team that made the hand pass, they probably appreciate the stoppage in play and getting to reset.
