Went looking for the story about what the NHL decided to do about supplemental discipline for Gleason from the Kulemin beatdown: Wans't on nhl.com; wasn't on tsn.com; wasn't on hurricanes.nhl.com; wasn't on leafs.nhl.com; wasn't on newsobserver.com; wasn't on...

apparently there's no story there. Apparently the league knew there was nothing to look at, nothing to review, etc., except maybe more padding along the visitors' entrance onto the ice at RBC Center.

Probably because the officials got it right as per the rule book. One guy got 5 for fighting (the only guy to remove his gloves) and same said guy got the boot for injuring an unsuspecting opponent.

Perfectly called by the officials.

Oh Please cmon...

Kessel would be a lock for 40 with Staal

Believe me Kessel would make much more of a difference then Gleason does

We've been hearing for years how Kessel would be a "lock" for 40 if this, if that. He played with Marc Savard and didn't score 40. He's now the only go-to weapon on his team and won't score 40. One gets the impression that he could play on a line with Gretzky and Oates and he would still hit 35 goals year after year.

And the reason for that is simple. Kessel is a one-man show. Linemates are irrelevant because he doesn't use them.

As for impact, I'd say the impact to Kulemin's face was greater than any impact Kessel will have on the league this season.

Kessel's last season with Savard he scored 36 in 70 games, putting him on pace for 42.17 goals. That same season Kessel played in an additional 11 playoff games, scoring 6 goals. In all 81 games played during that season he scored 42 goals.

Yeah I get that. Now let's combine everybody else's totals and 40 becomes the new 35.

Kessel played on the highest scoring team in the league, and was centered by the best pure playmaker this side of Crosby. He scored 36 goals. Get back to me when he breaks 40 for real.

He played less than a full season to get those 36. Playing 81 games he stayed exactly on pace to hit 42, and you think that's meaningless to discussion about whether or not he could hit 40 in a season?

Do you believe if he had played a full 82 game season that year he would not have found 4 more goals?

Again, please refer to the replay and drop your team bias for a moment.

Gleason's gloves come off at :09 and he grabs Kulemin around the shoulders. At that point, he IS fighting. Want-to has nothing to do with it, the fight has begun. At :10, Kulemin takes a step back, causing Gleason to topple forward momentarily. Kulemin puts both his hands on the back of Gleason's head, Semin-bongo-style, as a glove flies past his face. At that point, there is NO QUESTION that fists are about to start flying.

And your demand is that Gleason is supposed to stand straight up from that position and look at his opponent?? Seriously? Why, so Kulemin can clock him in the face again?

Unless Kulemin is a COMPLETE idiot, he knew Gleason was a fighter.
Gleason isn't a fighter though? To me, Gleason is a defenseman who can fight. Big differece.
So it's ok as long as you judge it to be ok?

Seriously?

BTW, perhaps the reason Kulemin has no fight history is because he has a habit of throwing gloved punches and then hiding behind a ref?
Link? Kulemin is far from a coward. He came into a scrum to help Grabo, and bit off more then he could chew. I can guarentee you, Kulie didn't come into the scrum to fight. He came in, hands up, ran into Gleason and things escalated.

I've been in Gleasons position, and I wont fault him for it.....but you gotta think, was he really defending himself? Kulie wasn't gonna drop his gloves, but he wasn't gonna back down either.
Brian Burke would trade any player he's signed in Toronto for Gleason, and Carolina would reject every single offer.

I've seen several Leafs fans post this without acknowledging the inverse: Kulemin was dumb enough to punch a real fighter.

We hear this hot air from Leafs fans after every scrap. Colton Orr will do nothing because he's a nothing player. You want to waste a roster spot? Go right ahead.
 Yo I think you got some sun stroke boy. Your posts have gone farther off topic and logic as we've gone here.

Yea, cause players regress over time.....yea, that makes sense.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Kessel, but your being ridiculous. Thats like saying Crosby played with Lemieux and didn't score 200 pts, so he never will.

Link to what? The video tells the story.

I agree, though, that Kulemin didn't expect to have to fight. He thought he was going to throw a bunch of gloved punches and get bailed out.

I asked for a link as evidence that Kulemin has a habit of throwing gloved punches and hiding behind the ref which you suggested in an earlier post... I watch a lot of Leaf games.......I have never seen this out of him. He wont back down from anyone, but he isn't an agressor.

If you watch the video again, Grabo was in the pile and Kulemin came in to grab a guy and keep the numbers even. Mistake he made was getting his hands up in Gleasons face. Gleason gave him a shot and he shoulda realized that moment was sink or swim.

I look at this incident like the Carcillo v.s Gaborik fight..... Tortorella had the perfect quote re; Carcillo - now applies to Gleason: "What a brave guy, huh?":sarcasm:

No doubt Kulemin will think twice about getting his hands up.....and Gleason will get his. More times then not, karma is a b****. If Gleason thinks Mr. Orr has forgotten about this, he is surely mistaken. If he doesn't wanna fight him, thats unfortionate.....Kulie didn't wanna fight either, however sometimes your actions leave you without a choice. Thats the point Gleason is at.

You have now

After 32 pages on the main board thread and 6 pages in this one, you'd think the facts of this incident would be clear enough by now.

16:51 Tim Gleason: 2 Minutes for Roughing Nikolai Kulemin

20:00 Tim Gleason: 5 Minute Major for Fighting Nikolai Kulemin (Served by Sergei Samsonov)

Start the next vid at 1:20 to see Kulemin "keeping the numbers even".

I'm sure he was stunned, stunned, to realize that he was encountering the same guy that he had encountered 3:09 earlier resulting in a penalty. What a bizarre and unlikely coincidence!

It wouldn't be a Leafs thread without someone blowing a bunch of hot air about Orr's quest for revenge.

If you really think Kulie had any intentions of fighting then you have no clue. Did he bite of more then he could chew? Yes, deffinitely. Did he learn his lesson? I would think so.

It would be a shame if Sutter or Staal happens to get their hands up in a scrum against the Leafs cause I guarentee you the players havent forgotten.

And yea, thats what Orr does.....he sure as hell doesn't play hockey, I thought we all knew that by now.

edit: your still yet to provide me any evidence of any occasion where Kulemin was taking punches then hiding behind the ref. For someone who make the comment as such a formality, I didn't think you'd have a problem coming fourth with several videos.

How many times do I have to say this? I KNOW that he didn't have any intention of fighting. He expected to throw a couple of Russian-style gloved punches and skate away. Not a very smart move on his part.

Again, it wouldn't be a Leaf thread without someone making empty threats on behalf of people they have never and will never interact with. We are two random people on an internet message board, how scary do you think you're being right now?

Russian style gloved punches? Please define a " Russian style gloved punch" I think Fedor would show you some Russian style gloved punches that would result in you eating through a straw you ingnorant *****. I forgot, your American, my bad. You can talk down about other countrys and nationalitys because your American, right?

 Now you know me, and who I interact with. Interesting.

Scary? Yes, I'm trying to scare you. Scare you by making the pretty obvious comment that the Leafs haven't forgotten about it. Be scared, very scared.:sarcasm:

Wow.

The KHL assesses a misconduct penalty to the first player who drops the gloves. They do a lot of gloved punching because they don't want the penalty. Same in the Olympics. Same in pretty much every Euro league.

Again, wow. You went right to the nationalist stereotypes when you saw an opening there.

 Now you know me, and who I interact with. Interesting.

Pretty sure you aren't in the Leafs locker room, bud. All this bluster about Orr or any other Leaf getting revenge is being pulled directly out of your posterior.

It's funny you would say something like this:

"It wouldn't be a Leafs thread without someone blowing a bunch of hot air"

and then when challenged repeatedly to put up or shut up with regards to this:

"the reason Kulemin has no fight history is because he has a habit of throwing gloved punches and then hiding behind a ref?",

all you can do is run around and avoid manning up. To top it off, you feel the need to talk about things:

"being pulled directly out of your posterior."

Hello pot, meet kettle.

Are you kidding me? You're seriously going to edit that down to exclude the word "Perhaps" and expect me not to notice?

That's just bush league. GTFO
