One way vs two way probably, and also the extra year. Getting $750k guaranteed is more important to a kid like Smith than the potential to make an extra $100k. He'll make the roster this season, but he's not a lock next season.

Yeah, it's kinda funny how a "cheap" contract can set the kid up for the next decade or so. $1.5M is a lot of money in the real world, very few jobs pay $750k/yr, even for a 2 year stint.

Pretty standard for teams not to disclose terms. Hence why capgeek was a thing. Why capfriendly took over. And why NHL.com isn't the source.
