Obvious intentional knee. Didn't see this play till now. But you can see Gio stick out his leg. NHL sees it the same way.

I wouldn't say intentional. I'd say reactionary.
Either way it was clearly kneeing or extremely close to it, enough to piss off Koivu like it did means it's dangerous.
