Hahah. Roslovic is not a 1c at all. He may be playing the position atm, but thats more out of necessity for Columbus. On no other team in the NHL is he a 1st line centre.

No more so then James Reimer being a #1 goalie for Carolina for the time being.

What's the deal with Monahan's value being so low.
If I'm Buffalo I'm laughing at this overpayment

It would be unfair to compare Eichel to a generational talent of McDavid’s caliber. To be frank McDavid’s development is not relevant to Eichel. Eichel, given the right supporting cast, could be a perrenial 90-100 point centreman.

It would be very short sighted for Buffalo to give up on that now.

His value is that of a second line center. Adding Tkachuk is what it would take to get a superstar young center to build around, something Calgary does not have in the system imo.

Where do you rank him against centers in the NHL (not talking all skaters, just centers)?

I wouldn't make this trade- we can't get Eichel and expect him to be happy in a similar situation to what he had to Buffalo. Tkachuk or Monahan as the base, of course. But not both.

Seems like Buffalo needs to fire the coach before trading away star players, cuz it seems like so many of them are struggling Eichel (goals wise), Skinner, Hall,

They said that about Bozak for years. The 30th best 1C is still a 1C. In no way did I say Roslovic was a star. My point was that it was a high price to pay.

Yeah, Krueger coaches a very sacrifice offense for defense system with a roster of players that's really built to do more exactly the opposite of that. Eichel is probably playing through shoulder stuff, too, though.

Ok. Then I can see why certain posters from Buffalo don't like the deal. For me, he isn't in the top 5, because he can't carry his team. Somewhere in the 10-20 tier (I base things on a tier system).

If I was the GM of Buffalo, I take the deal - as I feel Monahan is a top 30 center. And the difference between the tiers isn't a top line winger.

Yes I agree it was a high price to pay. This convo started by you saying that a young #1 centre is next to impossible to find. All I did was say not true, as the Jets just got one. It was never about what a team would have to pay to obtain one. Obviously the cost is high to obtain one.

As an aside. A lot of teams #2 centre and even some with their 3rd line centre are better then Roslovic. So no, he is not the 30th best in the league as you just claimed just as he is no where close to being a #1 centre. Kid needs to learn how to take and win a face off first and foremost.

Full disclosure, I think Eichel is a hell of a player and Buffalo would be crazy to trade him. It's just interesting what sort of narratives develop when people talk about players the same age/draft position.

Only way you move Jack is if you think your team is doomed as constructed and you want to restart the 5 year plan. Otherwise you build around Eichel and Dahlin.

I totally get that its Eichel, but Tkachuk is going nowhere.

    - Doesn't score much without Johnny Gaudreau.

    - Poor transition player (needs a winger to carry the puck through the neutral zone, like Gaudreau does).

    - Often a step behind defensively.

He is fantastic at cleaning up / scoring in the slot. But that makes him more like if JVR was a center, not really a #1C and possibly not a player who should be playing center anywhere.

Understandable but adding a top LW on top is an overpayment IMO.
Eichel is great, but not that great.

No I didn't. I gave many examples of it happening. Who is saying it's impossible to find?

Poor skater, can't play D. Guarantee his numbers drop a lot if you don't staple him to an elite winger like Gaudreau.

I assume based on the moves that CGY made last offseason that the team is currently in "win now" mode despite a slow start to this campaign? If that is the case, you could probably get JT Miller out of Vancouver.

He leads all Canuck forwards in ice time at 20:30 TOI/GP, he plays both the PP and PK, has a 55.7% at face offs, is a leader in the room, and is signed for two more years after this one at a discounted rate of 5.25mil per year. Miller is not someone we WANT to give up, and I'm not sure we should consider trading him, but a case could be made that if Vancouver is 2-3 years away from being a playoff team then trading Miller now would be the best move for both him and us.

The cost wouldn't be cheap, we'd need some legit younger pieces coming back.

It doesn't work that way. The top 31 C's in the league are 1C's.

    Outside looking in:

Eichel is exactly what the Flames need. Yes, you deal a player of Tkachuk's caliber to get a legit elite 1c. Eichel is a franchise player you build around. If this ever came to pass as an Oiler fan I'd be worried about how good the Flames would get.
