Sorry, I stole this idea from another thread. Just for the sake of argument, who are the top potential replacement players? Obviously there would be legal battles over who could and couldn't play, whether foreigners are allowed, who would cross a picket line, etc. But for the sake of argument, stick to players who fit these criteria:

- Canadian or American
- Not currently signed to an NHL contract and not a member of the NHLPA
- Hasn't played in the NHL in the last 2 seasons
- For AHL players, those who are not signed to a two-way contract or on a reserve list of an NHL team
- Has not been drafted in the last 2 years
- Not named Sidney Crosby

My pick is Patrick Lebeau.

This from a guy who believes in the WHA, with its promise of seniors on ice, purple pucks and fantastic poodles during the intermission. When the NHL returns, it will be with NHLPA members; the WHA, on the other hand, is not going any further than the fantasy world it exists in now...

What will be more interesting is to see the reaction anyone who believes that the NHL doesn't really have the players by their cajones when they realize there will be no replacement NHL. Sometime next season, play will resume with real live players. Sidney, like any bright Nova Scotian boy, proved last summer that he doesn't believe in fairy tale wealthy owners in imaginary hockey leagues. I can write him a cheque for 3,000,000 right now, but I don't think the youngster would be dumb enough to try and cash it...

I wonder if replacement stats will count as NHL stats and records.. Most goals in a period, most points in a game etc ..
