This took entirely too long, but at least it happened.

Yep. Not to harp on Hextall too much but if the past regime was still here you wouldn't see Frost until next year.

I looked at the top 50 point leaders in the NHL a few days ago and only Travis Konecny was there for the Flyers. They just aren't scoring enough to win more games. Frost, Farabee, Myers all sticking in the same year, that'll be a nice change. Gotta give Hexy some credit for scouting there.

Yeah because Rubstov is in the same tier of prospect as Frost is.

Rubtsov was #22 in 2016.

Frost was #27 in 2017.

Both were weak drafts with limited talent after the top 20 or so.
Rubtsov's development has been slowed by injuries, 31g in 2015-16, 51g in 2016-17, 82 in 2017-18, 14 in 2018-19.

Frost has more offensive talent, Rubtsov has more potential as a two way player.

They're not going to have a lot of players among scoring leaders with AV as coach, the only players who scored consistently under him were the Sedin brothers, HOF players at the peak of their careers.

But will his defense hold up against NHL competition?

*A derp, a derpity, derp*

That's actually a good question given how AV uses his centers, if you've watched Ghost get bounced around in the crease, you got a preview of what Frost may look like playing in the D-zone in AV's zone/man scheme.

What. Some of the players need to get going, their point totals are unacceptable. Giroux, Ghost, Voracek, JVR, and Hayes are all below what they need to be.

All you did was post a bunch of info that everyone knows, and proves nothing.

Since being drafted, Frost has clearly distanced himself from Rubstov and is on a different tier. Or are you actually trying to say they are on the same tier? Is that the stance you want to make? Because if it is, you are wrong. If it isn't, then who the f*** cares what Rubstov did in his recall and how does that relate to Frost who IS on a higher tier right now.

Maybe Myers is still on the tier of undrafted prospects too.

Hextall promoted Scott Laughton to the NHL in November 2014 when he was 20 years old.

TheAHL.com | The American Hockey League

Laughton had scored 11 points in 13 AHL games at that point in the 14-15 season.

Frost has scored 12 points in 16 AHL games.

Laughton played 31 games, had 5 ES points, played 11:24 at ES, 0:20 PP, 0:57 on the PK.
CF 45.10, xGF 42.41
Next season at age 21, 71g, 7-14 21, 9:38 ES, 0:42, PK
CF 47.42, xGF 48.26
Hextall then demoted him to the AHL at age 22 to improve his defense.

Frost should be better than Laughton, and he's more NHL ready (though not physically) than Rubtsov, but reasonable expectations as a rookie would be a marginal 3rd line center, scoring at a 25-30 ES pace for a full season (19-23 points for 63g) and sub par though not awful defense.

I'm ambivalent about this decision. Obviously interested in seeing what Frost can do on NHL ice; however, it seems like the prospects are "Do SOMETHING!" chips when the team play falls off a cliff. Hopefully, Vigneault put on his angry eyes and used his shouty voice after the weekend debacle.
