Outstanding performance by Lukas Reichel. Reichel was rightly chosen as the best german. With his equally good sidekicks Tim Stützle and Florian Elias he destroyed the Slovakian defense.

The German defense was not always sure. One of the best defender, Maximilian Glötzl, was unknowingly hidden in the 4th defense - maybe a tactical consideration.
Salzburg-Twins Maksymilian Szuber and Maximilian Menner scored with the outstanding first line, but otherwise with defects in the game. SH on low level by both.

Goalie Arno Tiefensee did not convince - 87% Save Percentage.

Lukas Reichel was voted to the best German player. Extremely good choice!

The first line of Team Germany sets the course for victory. This line with Lukas Reichel, Tim Stützle and Florian Elias is outstanding.

The German defense holds tight, but we will see if the performance is enough for the Czechs. The defenders Maximilian Menner, Daniel Schwaiger and Maksymilian Szuber are highly overrated. The best German defender in this Game, Maximilian Glötzl, continued in the 4th defense.

Goalie Marinus Schunda with a very good performance. He gave the team security (96% save percentage) and holds an penalty shot.

Defender Daniel Schwaiger was voted best German player. He was the most surprised himself. We take the joke. We agreed that Florian Elias was the best player.

@Halfdan: I disagree somewhat about the defense. This is overall a mediocre crop of defensemen and I agree mostly on Menner and Schwaiger, but Szuber is solid. Nothing spectacular but solid. Tuchel and Pilu weren't too bad either. As far as Glötzl is concerned, he seems to have by far the highest ceiling, and shows some promise, but it's not like he has been amazing in theses games. And while I would imagine he would perform better given the chance to play on a block with the first line, I get that the coaches won't mess around with what works. Still I do agree that he is the best defender on the team, but the gap to me is not as big as you make it sound, unless you talk about potential, there he is in a league of his own.

For me Stützle was the best player against the Swiss, but Elias would have been fine, both assuming that they couldn't pick Reichel again. Why Schwaiger got it is a mystery to me.

I've also liked David Diebolder so far. He made a great defensive play shorthanded late in the game vs. Switzerland and overall I thought he played a really good two-way-game both times.

By and large, I accept your opinion, but here we disagree:

- Szuber is in my opinion a bad skater and overestimates his abilities infinitely. Head wobbling is not a body shake, you know?

- Stützle was superficially the best player, but not consistent enough. Elias played with the necessary seriousness. Note his goal to 3:1 what he himself initiated and was allowed to complete as a reward.

- Diebolder is at this level at the upper limit of its potential. For me, he ran around randomly for 60 minutes.

I agree:

- Glötzl receives too little ice time and is used incorrectly by the coaches. He has the greatest potential of all German defenders and does not get the confidence of the coaches. That's why he does not play as outstanding as he could

Players commit to colleges and USHL teams but later choose to go a different route all the time. Stützle will likely have close to all 60 CHL teams interested in him next year and will without a doubt listen to what they have to say when the time comes. When a club like the London or Halifax knocks, they'll have some very convincing arguments to make.

You think he's that good? I absolutely agree that players all the time commit to college and decide to change their ways, Stuetzle is probably doing the safe path and having multiple options...and if he has a great season he will probably join a CHL team next year.

Yes. It's possible to go from CHL to USHL as well, happens a lot. Only thing you can't do is play college hockey if you've ever been in the CHL.

Oh definitely, but for players at Stützle's level, hockey=life. I don't know him personally, but from everything I've heard, he seems like a hard-working kid who wants to make it to the pros. And while they most certainly should think about life after hockey and what happens if they can't turn pro and make it a career, hockey is the No. 1 thing for them. If Stützle makes the NHL and makes minimum $650,000 a year but likely more, who cares if he played in the NCAA or not. He'll have to consider everything, and he did a smart thing committing to an NCAA school, but the CHL still has some great advantages that could definitely persuade him. We'll just have to wait and see.

The same will be true for Lukas Reichel and probably Florian Elias when they're eligible for the CHL Import Draft this season.

Oh wow, I'm just realising now that I completely misunderstood the discussion – none of what I said in response even made sense! Haha. 2018-19 still sounds like "next year" to me. I thought you'd asked if he'd go to Sioux City in 2019-20 and the question was therefore not if he was going over this summer but if he'll play for the club at all.

Just confirmed with the Musketeers that Stützle will stay in Mannheim this season, then join Sioux City in 2019. So, any information about him going over this year appears to be false.

Last I heard about the plans after that is that Stützle will join New Hampshire as a true freshman following the draft in 2020.
