I’m not as sour on him as many seem to be but this was always just an astonishing take on a team’s best prospect. Saying that the team would prefer to start his deal next year is obvious in the way that I would prefer not to pay my mortgage this year. But logic should come into play at some point during this and continuing to push that narrative just drives unneeded second-guessing on the franchise and frankly, him.

I really don't even care if he plays in the NHL this year. I think it would probably be best for him if he did get a few games at least, but the really important thing is just to keep him on the ice somewhere and keep him progressing.

This has become what has driven me away from The Athletic. Russo always pushing his f***in' narrative or being a mouthpiece for washed up players because they're a "good quote" or some bullshit.

I just want the scoop without his shitty personal take. I can come up with one of those on my own.

AND Russo proves he's an idiot again.

I mean what he reported was that the Wild would have preferred to delay it. It was speculative and he even listed out all the options the other day. Idiot is harsh, you can not like someone’s style of reporting, but come on.

In that tweet. He has been very dismissive of the possibility of signing Boldy for this season for like the past month.

Wonder if he's reporting to Iowa to in order to get his quarantine out of way there and get into the testing program without being on the cap.

That is the problem, he doesn't report. Instead he slings bs like this that leads to more clicks or additional subscriptions. Idiot statement stands.

On the bright side, Russo's lack of any actual knowledge of the Boldy situation, makes me feel better about his takes on the expansion situation.

I'm not sure the Wild could even fit his contract under the cap right now.

My guess is this is why Russo said he’d be shocked if Boldy played in the NHL this year. That said, if Boldy demonstrates in Iowa that he’s deserving of a place in Minnesota, you don’t keep him in the A because of a handful of middling veterans on expiring contracts with no future with this organization.

Push comes to shove I assume they could LTIR Foligno retroactively at this point, assuming he's out quite a bit longer. But they'd wanna do that as late as possible.

Unfortunately, not really. If you’re not doing click-bait, you’re doing something wrong in promoting your media nowadays, unfortunately.

I don’t agree with it, but it’s unfortunately the world we live in.

I wish there was a way to keep O'Rourke in the AHL next year. Seems kind of silly that as he's starting to really grasp the pro game, and will likely spend a full season there, that he'll be forced to report back to the OHL next season.

Easily the best part of this Covid nonsense has been seeing a guy like O'Rourke play some AHL games. I assume "left-shot Shea Weber" is a pretty measured response at this point?

I was thinking somewhere between that and "Nick Lidstrom meets Scott Stevens", so yeah, in the ballpark

Yeah I see what you’re saying there, his style has changed. But idiot is still extreme and there are far worse beat writers out there, and also in our market.

More realistically he does kind of remind off of Soucy, who I'll happily take two of.

Problem is, he seems to consider himself a "personality" now, and not just a beat writer. I don't exactly blame him for it, but it does seem to detract from what he once was.

That's the worst part. Russo really isn't a beat writer anymore. That's what he was good at.

That is fair. I think he is probably still bitter he didn’t get a chance to go to Vegas. There is a lot of annoying stuff he does, but the rest of our coverage in what should be a decent hockey market is rough. Sarah seems to always be a few steps behind and Dane is even worse about being an enigma instead of a reporter.

How about we settle on a player somewhere in between Soucy and Weber in talent level?:thumbu:

Soucy at 19 yo wasn't generating a lot of excitement for anyone but his Mom and Dad.

Russo is very good at what he does, frankly. The guy is a stuck up dude who is very proud of his career and he gets a little defensive, but there are far worse writers out there than him.

The main problem is that he's good enough that you can't dismiss him as another Jimmy Murphy or Adrian Dater. He does talk to a lot of agents and does do a lot of footwork to develop relationships within the organization. It's hard to figure out where where the informed speculation ends and where his own thoughts begin.

Unfortunately the media environment doesn't really allow him to stop speculating. He does that and he's probably out of a job.
