I just don't see Sokolov making the NHL unless this year he shows that he can make a large leap forward. He has a cannon and a half of a shot, is nifty around the net, but his skating and endurance are serious issues that cannot be looked over. It's why no one is talking about Sokolov being a serious prospect for the Wild.

He has to get very serious about his conditioning and skating, and become a student of the game if he wants to sniff the NHL even in a PP goal scoring specialist role.

sokolov was adjusting to a new team , he was the only russian on the team i believe. while 16G was not earth shattering its not like he bellyflopped. i expect good things from him this year. just wait & see. i think he'll be our #3 rw or maybe even #2 rw.

Scott Wheelers analysis on the 1st & 2nd-7th round.

Rates Boldy as a "win" from the 1st, and Warren as our best pick from 2nd to 7th taken 95 spots later than predicted (by some)
Thinks Hunter Jones was our worst pick. (Wasn't ranked)

while theres nothing wrong with boldy i cant get over the fact that we need C's & RW's yet our first 4 picks were 3 LW & a goalie. i do like that we picked a few Russian players , i think that's where the most value is currently.

you could argue pick 2 and 4 are C.

Which just shows that Fenton's draft philosophy is BPA regardless of position.

im pretty sure its more common the C's get moved to wings vs wings moved to play C. if you have a need i think its stupid too pick BPA. trade down if necessary

You can't tell me that there wasn't a good RHS forward pick out there in the later drafts.

define immediate needs , when your #1 & #2 C are about 2 years from retirement i think its an emergency! unless your plan is not to be a contender.

matt Duchene , ryan o'reilly
I'll give you O'Reilly, though that was 10 years ago now. It was also done in a draft immediately after firing the GM, so they've arguably been through two front office changes since then. Maybe 1.5?

Same with Duchene, and he was a 3rd overall. Again, it's kind of a different ballgame than the mid-to-late 1st round or beyond.

In the 10 years since then I think the only center of note they've taken is Jost, and he's had a bumpy road. It seems likely that he'll end up at wing, which is worth noting because the Avs have been hungry for center depth behind MacKinnon.

I mean I like Newhook a lot and think it was a good pick for them. I would've been happy with him at #12. But Boldy was a no-brainer.
