the farm is looking as good as it ever has in franchise history I’d say.

Maybe, just maybe, we should temper expectations.
Just sayin', it's an option

But still not enough. As much as we like these young guys, history tells us that some, if not many, of these prospects will not pan out...which is why next years draft is also critical to the future success and why Guerin needs to continue stock piling draft picks and additional prospects by moving players out that aren't in the future plans.

I'd say 8-9 at the moment. But gaining ground majorly.
It will be interesting seeing Wheeler’s vs Pronman’s organizational rankings. Wheeler is a lot higher on Rossi plus was his billet for a bit.
Wheeler has Rossi in his top 3 iirc. Plus thinks Rossi is ready for the NHL next season. I could see the Wild pool being higher in his eyes.

Pronman gave the Wild a B+ for their draft. Which was....kind of humorous. I'm not sure how it could have gone much better. Means nothing obviously until we know what everyone actually is, but in terms of what they needed to do, feels like it was a solid A.

Lack of draft picks, plus they are a little soft on the right wing.

I think his draft ranking is based on pure value of the selected players, not how well the teams did relative to their draft position. That's why the top 3 on his list is also the top 3 of the draft and NYR basically got an A+ by drafting the consensus #1.

How he ranked it was weird. He was going by who added the most talent and obviously, even though we hit our picks out of the park, we aren’t going to be ranked an A grade like the teams that were picking 1, 2, and 3 or the teams that had 4 2nds.

As it stands (minus goalie):

Top 10:

Tier 1:
1/ Marco Rossi (C)
2/ Matt Boldy (LW)
3/ Adam Beckman (LW)
4/ Marat Khusnutdinov (C)
5/ Calen Addison (RD)
6/ Ryan O'Rourke (LD)
7/ Vladislav Firstov (LW)
8/ Alexander Khovanov (C)
9/ Marshall Warren (LD)
10/ Brennan Menell (RD)

Rossi and Boldy have elite potential. Rossi is the type of center, player you want to build your franchise around. Beckman had a great season in his D+1 and has shown a lot of potential. Khusnutdinov also has a ton of potential and skill. Addison was one of the more talented defensemen in the CHL last season. O'Rourke has a lot of potential and rounds out a pretty deep defensive unit. Firstov had a sneaky good season in his rookie season last season and looks to build on that. Khovanov slides down because you expect him to be good in his D +2 and his transition to the KHL has been pretty rough. Warren and Menell can be swapped.

  • I think Kaprizov and Rossi are in a tier of their own as potential star players like Fiala was for the last 40 games or so.
  • Boldy should be a legit top 6 player, but doesn't have star upside like the other two.
  • Addison and O'Rourke both have top 4 upside, I could go back and forth on which one I think is higher, so consider them tied. These guys are my new Brodin-Dumba.
  • Menell is a weird one for me, I think he can be an offensive #4, but I don't think he gets any better than that. Other guys have higher ceilings, but he's more proven and definitely NHL ready right now, the other guys may never get there.
  • I put Beckman first of the next tier for now because of his last season, but this tier is pretty fluid as well. Still not convinced he'll be a difference maker in the NHL, but you can't overlook his production in the WHL.
  • I'm still not convinced Khustnutdinov will ever be an NHL player, I think his size and strength has a very real chance at holding him back. But he's supremely skilled so if he can get stronger he could be a solid second line contributor, offensively and defensively.
  • I think Khovanov has a better chance at sticking in the NHL, but Khusnutdinov has a higher ceiling, so Khovanov is slightly behind.
  • Firstov I think has a real good chance at being an NHL player, but his ceiling isn't as high as the other three.
  • I didn't rate goalies because that's boring.

I prefer the tiered approach, so we'll do that.

POTENTIAL STARS
Kaprizov
Rossi
  • I want to believe Rossi could be an 80-point, excellent two-way super stud, but I'm more confident in saying Kaprizov could be a 25-goal, 70-point guy (which is a low-level star to me), so I'm putting him first. Feels weird to me to call Kap a prospect at his age and development level though, honestly. So I wasn't sure I'd even include him in the list
LIKELY NHLERS
Boldy
Khusnutdinov
  • Boldy's a potential top-six guy. Doesn't excite me all that much, a la Coyle, Kunin, Tuch, or any of our other just-ok NCAA performers. Irks the hell out of me that the Avs got Newhook instead.
  • I really like Khusnutdinov and think, with his skating and tenacity on defense, he's a likely NHL player even if he can't smooth out the offense. If the flashes of occasional brilliance become consistent and he puts on 10lbs of muscle, we may have an OK 2C. Would leave us short down the middle but I don't really care.
FRINGE GUYS
Addison
Beckman
O'Rourke
Menell
  • Addison seems like the usual third-pair offensive specialist type to me. We finally got Nick Leddy, lucky us. Or maybe I'm full of shit and he's awesome, I dunno.
  • Don't know enough about Beckman to say anything intelligent about him. High-scoring CHL guy who was a mid-round pick. Cool, but those don't turn into NHLers with any sort of regularity.
  • O'Rourke and Menell are the kind of defensemen I generally hate and fail to rate appropriately. So maybe I'm ranking them too low.
OUTSIDE SHOT AT BEING CONTRIBUTORS
Firstov
Khovanov
  • I don't know much about Firstov. Potential middle-six guy? Will have to watch for him next year.
  • I'm really low on Khovanov right now due to his inability to hack it in the KHL. At his age and with his past skating issues, that worries me a lot more than it does with Khusnutdinov.

I had like a novel write up and then the page re-loaded so I’ll try and do it again
1. Marco Rossi: I think this kid is a future star. I think he’s a ppg, selke caliber center in 2 or 3 years. I think when you look to current NHLers and ask what type of impact he’ll have, it would be very similar to a Patrice Bergeron. That’s not a comparison in player, just the level/tier of player. Genuinely think he’s the steal of the draft. If he’s 2 inches taller he’s in the conversation with Byfield/Stutzle for everyone else. I had him on ove those 2 anyways.
————
2.Kaprizov: I think he’s a 1st liner. Will score 30-40 goals and get probably 30 assists.
————
3. Boldy: I like him and the tools a lot. I see a new-school power forwards that combines strength and size with unbelievable hands. I think he’s got 60-65 point potential, but I wouldn’t be suprise I’d his skating keeps him from getting to high-danger areas enough with the puck to reach that. 50s point player would be my floor for him.
———
4. ROR: Was a big fan of him when I watched him this year. The compete-level is great but was so impressed by how well he got pucks out of his zone. He’s got a cannon of a shot too and I think if the forwards on his team were better his stats would’ve been a lot better. Big pick for me and a guy I had 13 on my board before the draft. I see Slavin-lite, 3D potential and a guy who can play in all situations and probably wear a letter.
5. Addison: Very-High end offensive toolkit. I think he’ll run a PP, but I have questions about his defensive game and overall decision making. Looked very good at the WJC. I see him as a PP specialist 4D similar to an Anthony Deangelo.
6. Beckman: This is a very raw projection and I haven’t seen him outside of highlights, but his shot looks great. I think he’ll play and I think he’ll be a 20 goal scorer.
7. Khusnutdinov: A possession king who can absolutely fly and drove play in all 3 zones at an elite level in the MHL this year. His draft-year production was very good when compared to previous Draftees from the MHL, though it’s a hard league to gauge from stats. He was noticeable at the Hlinka, but I would say he was noticeably better in the one game I watched on YouTube a few weeks back, which might be indicative of growth or sample size. Either way, if you want, you can find his games on YouTube.
8. Khovanov: has all the tools to be a top-6 center in the NHL but I question his dedication. He’s a player I think could stand to lean-down but it appears to me he’s actually gained a bit of body-fat this year. He likely added muscle too, but I worry about it. He’s also in his D+3 and can’t crack the KHL which can mean many things.
9. Firstov: I liked what I saw from him this year and his production was good. I think he’s a good bet to be an NHLer but I question if he has an elite quality that will allow him to differentiate himself as more than a bottom-sizer
10. Menell: Liked him when he played and his production has been intruiging. If it were up to be he’d be or 3RD now.
