Took me a bit to fully grasp what we he was saying but damn if he wasn’t spot on.

Eh, I was working for a net startup company in 1999 and this kind of thinking was already very common. It's the reason for the dotcom bubble. Love Bowie but TBH the more profound statement on the internet topic back then ironically came from Dubya when he said the internet turns hearts dark, to paraphrase. THAT was counterintuitive and has proven more true than any of us gave him credit for being possible.

His comments about the 70s representing a singular reality that became fragmented is more a statement about his own personal perceptions, and those of people his age at the time. Mainstream culture started being pulled in different directions due to political factors I won't get into here, but for a lot of people there was no single truth that matched the consensus reality. Plurality of perspectives and hidden agendas/issues always existed but were stifled.

It was a leading thought for me, then again the extent of my experience with technology back then was getting drunk with my buddies playing Golden eye.

Bolded I would agree there was this feeling that the world was being connected and more and more things out there learn/experience (not even going to the gaming side of things). Never saw the coming the cesspool that is social media mainly with Facebook even though I bailed fairly early for other reasons.

Social media, no. Even myspace wasn't like this. Live Journal offered an initial glimpse, imo, at least when it comes to drama. Not really for fake news and data mining etc. though some false information was probably causing people to wake up a bit to that possibility.

The closest things 20yrs ago were bulletin & message boards, IRC, mailing lists, and some image sharing sites. I think the negative impression of the internet back then came mostly from the last category, and the distaste some people had for "edgy" material (like rotten.com), or else the obvious porn component...whether it was aversion to legal porn or the increased opportunities for illegal exploitation. Eventually piracy and file sharing cropped up as higher profile issues, and Bowie might also have been thinking about that since '99 is when Napster started.

edit: not to mention people first learning about hacking and viruses, of course.

Still one of the best video games ever made. License to Kill with "Slappers Only" was always a good way to mix things up. Also you definitely had to ban people from using Oddjob since he was so short the auto-aim feature didn't pick him up -- true story

21 years after GoldenEye N64 came out, it's official: playing as Oddjob WAS cheating

Some of my best times with my buddies was playing that game. Bought an N64 just for that game. I was a wizard at placing proximity mines where no one could see them. Loved waiting a couple minutes then “boom” and someone cussing me.

Do some work time to time with the Secret Service. Was at their HQ on Monday near City Center, saw tons of businesses there boarded up.

Was advised at the time to stay away Tuesday and Wednesday. Got a short term 'all clear' for that area Thursday. (But also to about the White House area.)

General standing advisement is to only come downtown if necessary, minimize exposure outside, and generally be careful.

1067 purchased 980 which is bad news for local radio.

Never though this was a big enough market for 2 sports stations, but if forced to pick one 980 was always better. Czabe, Pollin, Gaudi and Sheehan were better than anyone on 1067.

It sounds like they will still be on the radio which is good.

I dislike 106.7. A lot of donkeys on that station. And I can’t get a signal for it here in Annapolis so I never listen to it. I hope they don’t mess with 980 to much but I don’t listen to that station much anymore either.

I listen to podcasts now, especially Sheehan’s pod. I prefer it because it’s relaxed banter and I don’t have to listen to dumb shits like me call in and express bad takes either.
