For second degree attempted murder in a domestic incident? Sounds like the going rate to me. Maybe a little bit on the low side if you're a "throw the book at 'em" type but not extraordinarily so.

No doubt.

A guy just got sentenced this week in Canada for the actual murder (manslaughter) of an MMA fighter for the exact same length of time. Intentionally ran him over in his vehicle.

Detroit Lions LB Trevor Bates arrested in New York and then assaults a cop. :amazed:

from espn.com:

Detroit Lions linebacker Trevor Bates punched an officer in the eye after he was arrested in New York on Saturday, police told ESPN.

Bates was booked at the 115th Precinct station house in the borough of Queens for allegedly not paying cab fare. He refused to be fingerprinted and punched a police sergeant in the face above the left eye, police said.

Authorities said the officer received three stitches and suffered a concussion.

Bates is facing a felony charge of assaulting a police officer as well as resisting arrest and theft of service.

"We are aware of the arrest of Trevor Bates earlier today in New York," Lions general manager Bob Quinn said in a statement. "We have not spoken to Trevor as of yet and are still in the process of gathering more information. The Detroit Lions will have no further comment at this time."

The 6-foot-2, 247-pound backup linebacker was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation authorities said.

Bates appeared in nine games this season with three tackles.

The 25-year-old is in his first season with the Lions.

I for one am shocked the guy who beat, choked, and tried to give his girlfriend an abortion by punching her in the stomach would also break his kid's arm. It's also the same kid.

****ed up the mother and then broke the kid's arm. That might be a new low for an NFL player suspension wise.

He's gone for the year. Spousal abuse is one thing but kids? NFL gonna drop the hammer on this trashbag.
