The KHL's hottest team for the moment: Avto with 5 straight wins. Can they rev up the engine again tonight?

Artemi Panarin is really really good. Thank goodness he did not go to Canadian juniors. At least one elite Russian junior player was saved.

Riga will almost surely be in playoff. It's a big step from last season, but isn't something that could surprise anyone. If Medvescak makes playoff, that'd be another story. But looking at their fixtures in next two months it looks very unlikely now.

I think it's very surprising, considering Riga finished dead-last the previous season. Check out the predictions thread here on HFBoards. I believe no one predicted Riga to make the play-offs, let alone ranked 3rd. Not even Riga fans.

Yeah, my prediction was that they'll play entertaining hockey and finish 10th in the West or something like that.
But then again I didn't expect that all our big signings (Wilson, Robinson, Sedlacek and Hossa) will show up big time too, Telly will look like goalkeeping god and OzoliņÅ¡ will be able to maintain his best KHL performance still, at the age of 41.

I think our first season was the last time when we had such a good foreigner selection, if we add to that fantastic Ozo return and improving quality of second rate Latvians that are still in the team (and occasional flashes of veteral Ņiživijs and young IndraÅ¡is who might be the only real dissapointment after last season's performance), all of that summed up to great team play and 3rd place in the West.

A good day for Russian U24s in general. Kuznetsov, Panarin, Kugryshev and Lazarev all got decisive two goals.
