The Bruins deserve more of our attention - The Boston Globe

Make way for pucks.

It’s time to cede center stage on the common ground of Boston’s crowded sports scene to the Bruins. They deserve it after flourishing as Boston sports background noise for the last few months. It’s time to move on from why Malcolm Butler didn’t play a defensive snap for the Patriots in Super Bowl LII, why the Celtics didn’t make a move at last Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, and why the Red Sox remain locked in a contract stalemate with overrated free agent slugger J.D. Martinez. Instead of focusing on what might have been or what could be, enjoy what is on the ice. The Bruins have rather unexpectedly charged from the neutral zone of the NHL to the doorstep of having the best record in the NHL.

Hard-core hockey fans have been attuned to the Black and Gold revival for awhile now. The Spoked-Believers constitute the most faithful and knowledgeable fanbase of any of our five major professional sports teams. But these Bruins should have mass appeal.

Actually, hard-core hockey fans have been arguing about whether or not Tuukka Rask is elite for a while now.

Being attuned to the revival is a relatively new phenomenon.
