hey guys I know someone wont like this idea but I think Dubas should be shopping gardiner or at least finding out what his value is, don't want to see him walk away for nothing just like JR or Bozak, that's not good business so I say move him for the best possible deal, wont be able to sign him anyways so it time, use the imagination mr. Dubas….

Don’t kid yourselves, if he ever hit the trade/FA market he’d have a lot of suiters. We don’t have a replacement for him at this point, and our defence would struggle like crazy. Dermott is good, not sure if having him run the 2nd pair is good for his development.

Like a deer in the headlights. No one will overpay for him, this is another "self rental" then walk situation.

We're judging players by their looks now? I bet Jake Gardiner could flatten you.

Ask yourselves would you trust Jake g in a game 7 scenario protecting a lead ? See game 7 last year vs Bruins for reference and make your decisions.

Don’t stop there, might as well blame him for the other 3 losses as well.

Leafs can't afford to trade him. Whatever you think of Gardiner, he is still the #2 Dman on a team competing for the cup. Really doesn't matter if he ends up walking for nothing.

Yes? One game doesn't define him.

Gardiner is a really good defenseman. It would suck to lose him, I hope he re-signs but he would likely get a lot more $ as a UFA. We just have to hope Dermott can take his spot (looks good so far but who knows if he can move up without any problems) and hope that one of Sandin/Liljegren makes the team and takes Dermott's spot.

---All the Leaf fans who want him gone are seriously going to regret it if and when he leaves.

Jake Gardiner is a really good defenseman and the Leafs would regret if they traded him without getting a similar defenseman back, or if they let him walk.

All I wanted to say, easily the most underrated Leaf because of all the continuous **** he gets thrown at him for one, although untimely game.

As much as it would make sense from an asset management point of view to shop him, you'd basically be giving the fanbase a huge slap in the face if you did. They're a cup contending team right now but already thin on D. Teams in that position don't trade away their 2nd best d-man coming off a 52 point season.

However, if they did, don't let the unjustified hate he gets on here fool you. Teams would line up for a guy like that at the deadline and he'd return a boatload just like Shattenkirk did.

Don't know if that is the case but I think there were a few Toronto fans on suicide watch posting about getting rid of Gardiner immediately after that game and directly blaming him for GWG against to end the series.

You mean a second pairing defenseman, right? On no team is Gardiner a #2 defenseman. He's a 3/4 guy at best.

Which collapse are we talking here, 2013 or 2018? Fact of the matter is Jake is a victim of the cap crunch, and he won't be as difficult to replace as some think. Certainly not worth the Shattenkirk deal he is likely to command as a UFA.

I’m not a leaf fan. But the fact that people attacked Gardiner for his play that game is beyond me. I remember breaking down every goal on Facebook as every single leaf fan complained about it. Two bad mistakes. But people blamed him on other goals that the forwards hung him out to dry on. Is he a good defenseman. Nope. Was it his fault that that they lost or the teams?

We will never win a thing with him in that role for us.

I'd trade his buttocks in a heartbeat, if someone out there wanted him.

the defense without him will be awful next year, which means you either have to sign someone (doubt it). So it's either give up assets in a trade or rely on lijegren/sandin which while good prospects, I don't want 20 and 19 year olds on a contending team given top 4 roles

Leafs fans who dislike Gardiner aren't going to realize what hit them if he leaves. Memory/confirmation bias is a hell of a drug

It's not a terrible idea, if it's part of a concerted effort to bring in about four good defensemen to replace pretty much everyone but Rielly and Dermott. Remaking that group is going to take years, plural.

If it's simply part of an effort to free up money to afford all their forwards, then yes, it's a terrible idea. I expect the Leafs to pay him significant coin to re-up, myself.

The contract I'd think Leafs fans would be peddling would be that of Zaitsev.
