Random thought I am having. A lot of people harp on the show for the later seasons not being as good (myself included). We blame the showrunners but the fact that GRMM has not put out a book in ages kind of makes me think he is struggling to tie all the strings together in a satisfying way.

It's not just that. Sometimes these big fantasy epic book series can run away from the author and get convoluted in the middle - Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series being the best example, and that's what happened with GRRM. What is essentially the 'intermission' point in the story just has too many separate story lines going on simultaneously to work for TV.

Would be funny to see Bronn riding up to Winterfell only for him to see the battle in the distance and says "**** this nonsense" and goes to the nearest abandoned castle.

Curious what happens to Bronn. He's being sent to kill Jaimie and Tyrion-correct? I can't imagine that will be allowed to happen.

I loved the episode.

My point is that I believe she left the Dothraki in the south. We do not see them in episode 1 and when we see the map showing the armies there is no sign of the 100k Dothraki.

It would have been impossible for them to make 100 thousand dragon glass weapons in such a short time on top of the 40k they had to make for the infantry.

She may just high tail it if things get tight..
You can see them in front of the Unsullied in the preview for next week.

Not to mention as the trenches , etc were being setup they showed them and Northern horseman riding around

I also imagine they are using some of the Dothraki to provide protection/escort duty to Northern refugees and armies moving to Winterfell from various houses

They should just lace the grounds with oil and light it on fire when they wights are over it

I had the same thought. I was reminded of how effective it was in the old PC game Stronghold to surround your castle with pitch and then fire flaming arrows at it when the siegers were wading through it. Maybe Winterfell doesn't have that much oil, but the crypt scenes sure do have way more lit torches than the one or two people down there at any one time really need. Someone is definitely not worried about running out of fuel.

One question... Why are they putting all the weak people in the crypt? Like, with a bunch of corpses? They know the NK is a necromancer.

They probably think he can only reanimate recently dead corpses, which may or may not be true. Can he reanimate a corpse if all that's left is bones? The show hasn't really shown how far his abilities go in that regard.

If you watch the frozen lake scene when they come for them, the first Walker they show has a bone for a leg and half a skull. Most of them are skull and bones.

EDIT: Just realized what you meant was putting the bones back together.

Arya once said nobody knows what's west of Westeros, so that got me thinking

What if our heroes survive, but Westeros is overtaken by the Night King and they're forced to flee in ships

But rather than heading east, they instead head west

I could see something like that happening, with the series ending with them drifting away into the unknown

Book discussion isn’t allowed, but I have major thoughts that any perceived drop in quality has more to do with the Feast and Dance being meandering messes then anything the showrunners have done. Add on the final two books not existing and there you go.

Though I think season 6 was a major improvement off of 5 and a big reason was because they cleared the briar patch that was Dance and the plot could move again.

That is not one hundred thousand Dothraki.

Maybe ten thousand?

The dead have around 120k. If all the Dothraki were there they would outnumber the dead.

They couldn't possibly outfit 140,000 troops with dragon glass in a little over a week.

I recorded DespicableMe3 and in the before intro they showed the Night King walking in front of his WWs' and a huge explosion/fireball erupting behind them.

I hope you guys are ready in 5 days. No i really mean READY. Like no distractions, favorite food in front of you and the lights off.

The Battle at Winterfell may very well be the new best scene of the series (of course the Red Wedding being #1 at the moment).

Prepare yourselves....

do you think we'll actually hear the Night King speak? or will he remain silent?
in the first episode, he sent a ****ed up message without having to say anything....

Like I said in an older thread, it's an old chess piece that's been on the board that the writers don't know what to do with this point so they're kind of getting the 'Ghost' treatment. She could sweep the field clean in Westeros with them, but are a bit of an awkward match against an equal sized army of undead in the middle of winter. They could even be a massive liability considering they don't wear armour and casualties get raised back up to fight again.

Arya got a little cocky last episode (so punny!) when she said she can't wait to meet the Night King (I'm paraphrasing)

It would be somewhat fitting if she died as a result of overestimating her skills, while at the same time underestimating the Night King and his White Walkers
