Interesting article on a statistics research on "Game Intelligence": http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/05/150514085701.htm
The actual paper is here: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0125453#sec003.
I didn't read the whole paper, but I thought some of you may be interested.
It looks like an interesting stab at the concept of "Game IQ", which would be the ability to properly assess in-game situations based on their "potential": "the probability that the own team will score the next goal subtracted by the probability that the opponents will score the next goal, hence minimizing the opponents' best alternative."
It's basically knowing to properly (and quickly) assess risk/reward. Then there's the ability to execute the decision, which is based on "pure skill", if you want.
