Injuries and pure luck are bigger factors than officiating.

Unless you are actually buying into biased officiating conspiracy theory.

Yes, I should have mentioned luck, no other major sport has as much pure luck involved as hockey. As for officiating, there is no doubt in my mind that some officials are biased, most are just incompetent.

He's shooting an unsustainable 23% right now. His career S% is 10.2%, which tells me he's just red hot and will come back down to earth. He also has 9pts in his last 5 games, but he's playing nearly 18 minutes a night. He's not getting that TOI here.
Maybe not, but I still think he would have been a solid addition with the other two players we got as well.

The plan to give the Presidents Cup to Tampa has gone a bit awry...

Of course who thought Toronto would beat Tampa. The bolts should have brought in their Zamboni driver.

Anyone. Listen Kase could be great. But he is a question. A team as close to a cup as we are, that needs to be given the best chance. The highest priority. Even in an overpay. What was our offer for Kreider ? Was one made ? Toffolli ?, Was one made ? Pageau ? Was one made ?. I cant figure why we keep never getting the guys we need. The guy that comes in and excites the players and tells them management has their back. Zucker goes to Pittsburgh. How good would that guy look on our team. But Crosby gets him. I cant give trade scenario's. but there must have been a way to get creative for a top six guy this year and worry about signing Krug after the cup run. He wants to stay so he will wait. Even Grandlund would have been good. I just dont understand this guys reluctance to complete this team. Everyone knows what the team needs. Accept it seems the person who runs it. But listen, I have seen a guy like Studninka come up and be that guy. So maybe the GM knows better. I would love to be wrong. We will see.
Yeah we keep hearing the Bruins were very active and DS was in on all these players, but they never seem to get one of the main prizes, so not sure how serious offers were, although I am glad not to severely overpay, however he was offering a 2nd for Kovy which is scary, good thing he chose the Caps. I like DS and think he is great at signing college FA and re-signing our own guys to great contracts, but he is not great at making big trades or UFA signings, to me DS would be an awesome assistant GM and have a guy like a Rutherford or Yzerman type as the GM.

Maybe, but it sounds like the comp for the prospect they got would have been Studs or Beecher for us. If that was the case then I wouldn't want him

sadly we are in first place in the league after going to the cup finals last year
we did get a couple of the guys we needed :)

pastrnak was a guy we needed... yup got him
marchand was a guy we needed... yup got him
Bergeron was a guy we needed... yup got him
chara... got him a long time ago
rask… got him and had him for years too
McAvoy and carlo and debrusk... yup...
oh wow I keep looking down this roster and we got so many guys

oh wait I just noticed the cap cost column and damn... theres a limit

oh well... its ok... if we got a lot of good kids in the system we can replace the guys we will be losing in the years to come with affordable home grown elc's… thats how teams get what they need and stay competitive

we went to the finals in 2011 and 2013... and by focusing on home grown talent and cap management we got back in 2019 and are very likely headed there in 2020

its damn good... its damn good

and we needed to address team toughness
Ritchie/federic/lauzon are the guys we needed... got them now

and we needed to address a natural right handed shooting winger that could be a 20 plus goal thread
and kase is potentially that guy... got him now

Bjork/kuhlman dont get a job handed to them this year or next year... we create competion for the one remaining top 9 position

look at our top 9 depth chart

marchand… only 3-4 teams have a number 1 as good as marchand
pastrnak... easily one of the top 3-4 number 2's in nhl
Bergeron... no team in nhl has a number 3 better than ours

krejci... a top 5 number 4 guy... our depth is starting to become elite
debrusk... top 15 number 5 guy if he even is our number 5 guy...
coyle… could be our number 5 guy... if hes number 6 hes top 5

there are not many teams with 5 and 6 depth guys better than ours

kase… its early but if hes number 7 hes comparable to kapanen in Toronto... or whoever tampa ices
Ritchie... a 40 point 230 pound fighter. hes one of the top 5 scoring fighters in nhl and hes growing
Bjork... still developing but if hes your 9th depth chart thats damn good

wagner… last years 7th player award. plays a high demand energy game but can bring it when needed
kuraly... always steps up at playoffs... 4th line guys have flaws... but can be an impact player for us

Nordstrom... plays honest... if hes motivated he does a decent job on 4th line
Lindholm... versatile and puts out an effort... doesnt make a lot of mistakes
kuhlman… character energy player with some decent skill for a bottom 6 forward
blidh… brings an element thats interesting and can be useful on a 4th line

where can you say we didnt get what we need... we are top of the pile at every single forward position. maybe you were greedy and wanted to overfill positions but there is a caphit

and as we know... evan gold is a cap master

we were facing the very real possibility of maxing our cap this year with backes in the minors. adding 4 mill new cap hit without subtracting 7 mill cap hit was very likely going to cost us next year with a reduced ceiling

so... we got one more thing we were in need of... a better cap situation next year when people like you and me will want us to be competitive again

and room to sign players like krug/debrusk/grzelyck/halak/chara who people like me {and you?} will feel we need next year too

its good

Nick Ritchie got in basically this morning, had one practice and has spent 14 minutes on the Bruins with 3-4 different line mates tonight. 7 hits, t
hrew his body around, made several touch passes, a beauty reverse to Coyle in the first, and timed up a nice one for Coyle in the third that he ripped wide.

Was he impressive? Probably not, but the guy has literally been on this team for minutes. What a garbage trade. He should have had a 5 point night, fought everyone and found the cure for Coronavirus.

This board is pretty unbearable at times.

it just reminds me that when we are all getting so excited at rumor time that some insider said we are in on player A and another insider says we are in on player B and another insider says we are in on player C...

that insider rumors about who we are in on... dont usually come true

I know ive been saying that for over 10 years here and people still think im some hater that is criticizing the insiders. but the proof is in the pudding. year after year after year after year most the players the insiders tell us are coming here are never ever coming here

and... which insider was telling us we were in on nick Ritchie? honestly I cant remember. I know I was proposing we should get him as recently as this past off-season when we got his brother. in all honesty I thought the door closed on us getting him when we sent brett to the ahl.

I wont claim I knew he was coming... but I did identify his value to this team. I did say he would be a target of mine if the price was right. im no insider. but I felt it was logical we would try to get him and then we did try to get him.

I continue to say my success at predicting which players will end up as bruins is about the same as any of the insiders.

when people crap on fantasy trade proposals and scream they only want legitimate trade rumors maybe what they really mean is they dont want uneducated trade proposals made by unrealistic fans that dont consider team needs and cap management.

in hindsight some of my ideas werent so far fetched at all
wayne Simmonds was available at a very affordable price... and was desired by a team
Patrick marleau actually went to a cup contender most of us say is doing a good job
kovalchuk went to a cup contender most of us say is doing a good job
bobby ryan didnt get moved but he is back in the nhl and going to play again

I was saying we should/would address the size/toughness issue and we did
I was saying we would try to upgrade our right shooting scoring wing... and we did

I was never a fan of kase and said so... I as wrong about him being the target and im unhappy but I trust Sweeney and his team. they are probably more right than I am. I hope they are more right then I am.

I would have preferred tom Wilson or jake Virtanen over nick Ritchie but they arent available. milan lucic would cost more and doesnt have the upside of Ritchie. I wanted one of these elite power forwards and we got one...

so im 50% on this deadline. I wasnt in favor of giving up our first or andersson but I did say we should move backes and Heinen... so im 50% on that too

I will take it.

and if the insiders end up around 50% I think thats awesome. normally the success rates for me is a lot lower and for the insiders its usually lower too

Kreider - irrelevant because he re-sign with the Rangers

Toffoli - I've spoken my piece on him already

JGP - We didn't need a center and up until getting 1st line minutes this year, he was a bottom 6 forward who killed penalties.

Zucker - Would have been nice, but it would have cost us 1st + Vaak + roster player (big price to pay for a guy whose really a LW that you'd force to play RW)

Granlund - Really? the guy has 4 more points than Heinen this year

This team is #1 in the NHL right now and are better than they were before the TDL. They made the SCF last year are one of the favorites to get there again. By your posts (yes plural) you'd think we were a fringe playoff team that hasn't sniffed the playoffs in decades.

I can't even think about this happening. I am absolutely terrified of this thing.

Me too. I'm trying to be alert, and not anxious and hope that it doesnt get big here. In the meantime praying health officials and scientists can get a vaccine or treatment in place fast.

Still gotta treat it like a regular flu. Wash, wash, WASH your hands. Dont touch your face. Try your best to avoid crowds. Sanitize everything. Lysol is your friend. We'll be okay. As an anxiety sufferer this is the worst for us. But we must try our best not to stress out. Its hard. But we must try!

The Bruins are keeping me sane. This website too. Distractions are needed.

Not a lot of positives from tonight, but since I'm a "glass half full" person, here goes:

Lindholm was solid. He must've realized with Heinen now gone, he was the heir apparent to be the whipping boy here, and upped his game.

Gryzelcyk sticking up for McAvoy. Not necessarily the guy I want doing that, and I wish they could've killed the penalty. But I don't see this team getting pushed around in the playoffs.

And major props to the events coordinator who chose Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover for Halak's (and Chara's) ceremony. Classy music for a classy celebration.

Halak's wife showing up in black leather. Absolutely rocked.;)

Aside from that, forgettable game, turn the page.

Problem I have with Grz hit, is it wasn't the right time...it was a few seconds after the hit on Mac, which is going to be a guaranteed penalty. In a 2 -1 game you can't do that.

Wait for an opportunity to throw a clean revenge hit. That play basically ended the game for us by giving up that PP goal. Gotta play smarter

Well...that was fun.
10 minutes in I thought..."Uhoh, we are wearing US Postal uniforms tonight, we're mailing this one in".

Calgary played it simple and shot when they had a chance.

We were p!ssing around, over passing it and trying cute touch passes.
We were clearly out muscled along the boards except for our 4th line who actually shone. Impressive!

It wasn't a dirty hit.

No need to retaliate.

Leafs play them tough.

The head-to-head matches since the beginning of the 2018 season are 4 wins for the Bolts and 2 for the Leafs including last night. The Leafs had to win last night, the Bolts are slumping a bit. I don't think Toronto would take a series against them.
