On February 9th 1996, the eventual Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche, who were 29-16-10 at the time, lost 3-2 at home to the 22-25-6 Hartford Whalers in overtime. Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg scored for the Avalanche. Sakic also had an assist. Andrew Cassels scored the tying goal and assisted on the game-winner by Adam Burt.

The day before, the New York Islanders had lost 2-6 to the New York Rangers. Ray Ferraro scored twice for the Rangers and added an assist, while Mark Messier and Pat Verbeek each had a goal and an assist. The Islanders were 14-30-8 at the time and finished the season third to last with a 22-50-10 record. Ziggy Palffy scored 43 goals that season, while Joe Sakic led the Avalanche in scoring with 51.

The Ottawa Senators finished the season in last place and selected Chris Phillips first overall the following summer.

*We don't know about the lineups yet, and I don't care either way.

Graves was recalled. I didn't hear anything about Cole getting suspended. I hope Barrie's not injured.

Here's some more facts:

That Alanis Morissette album sold over 33 million copies worldwide and topped the charts in 13 countries.

The first ever Pokémon thing was released that February in Japan - a pair of games on Nintendo Game Boy.

I was about seven months old.

The Isles have been playing excellent defensively lately, allowing very few goals against. We saw some of that first hand in Denver the last time that these two teams met. The Avs had an incredibly difficult time generating quality scoring chances.

Looking forward for the Sens getting manhandled by the Jets tonight.
And oh, the Avs play too.

Knowing the Sens, since they are playing at home, they are likely to win and pick up two points. It probably will be a three point game.

God it is truly amazing just how badly our goaltending has been since 2019 started. Been playing around with Natural Stat trick and looking at our team stats. Even when we've been leading games in 2019(Which hasn't been very much so far), we are still utterly dominating shots attempts, high danger chances, etc. while our goaltending has still been pitiful.

In their 24 games since defeating Florida on Dec. 6, the Avalanche have allowed 96 goals (the most in the NHL over that span) on 718 shots, which is the second fewest in the league behind the Blues (669). Of the 47 goalies who have played in at least 10 games since Dec. 6, Varlamov is 46th in the NHL with a .876 save percentage, and Grubauer is 47th at .869.

It's actually so bad it's impressive. If the Avs tank all the way to a second top 3 pick, people will look at those stats, and then look at the goalies career stats, and assume they tanked it on purpose.

Apex Legends or Avs hockey is the question for the evening? Two and a half hours of joy or misery?

Wow. That's pretty incredible.

Avs usually shit the bed in brooklyn, will that combined with their recent luck win out against their decent record with early games?

In what amounts to an 11am start for the boys I expect them to wake up sometime in the middle of the 2nd period. Hopefully it’s not 5-0 by then...
