I thought faceoffs didn't affect games?
I still think the offside review needs some limitations. Maybe if the assisting players or goal scorer was offside then its challengable. But being offsides then passing the puck around 4 times and cycling then scoring shouldn't matter. Now I agree that was offsides.
When we get back from the break it will be 51 weeks since we last scored a goal with the goalie pulled.
We're going to run out of unemployment at this rate.
Also we're the only team without a 6 on 5 goal this season.
Because we prefer 4 on 5
We missed OEL.
Team looked really ragged most of the game as in out of sync. But given it was a back-to-back which included a bus tour of Quebec Provence between games?? I liked that we didn't quit.
Pickard was okay..... a little too Wedgewood-esque early on flopping around everywhere, but settled in. First NHL game in two months.
Pickard reminds of how Kuemper used to play. He’s not very calm back there.
Damn Gally got rekt by the worst rule ever invented.
Our weary and bruised boys battled hard and could have pulled at least a point if not for Golly's folly.
Still, great January and we'll deserved rest coming up.
RT is doing a hell of a job with this roster.
Yotes looked tired, yet somehow they stuck with it all night. Feel bad for Gally, he was happy as **** after that goal, but of course another coaches challenge for a ****ing inch offside ruins the day.
Oh well, can't fault the effort. The "us against the world/hockey gods" mentality works pretty damn well for this team. Credit to the coaching staff for getting the most out of them right now.
Waive Goligoski. I don’t care if they only dress 5. Just get his ass off this team.
I wouldn’t have been surprised if the final was 5–1. The team looked exhausted.
I did that route a few years back, except in the opposite direction, on a train, in the daytime....
Took a while. Don't envy the boys.
Terrible game. The effort was there for the most part but the hockey plays werent. And **** coach's challenge, really wanted chucky to score.
Was an awful game to watch but I give the YOtes credit. They are now playing a style that is hockey. They are on the puck really fast and this team now has some grit. It has an identity which you can say it never had before. I wish they would have traded STrome and Perlini for a grittier skilled guy instead of the pansy they got.
I hear Edmonton might be willing to get rid of some of their gritty skill guys they stocked up on last year.
I feel cheated on. I don’t know how else to explain my feelings right now. I’m so disgusted by that call. Unreal.
Rough challenge... one of those times where spirit of the law vs letter of the law conflict, imo. Thought the Yotes deserved to at least make it to OT in that game. Last stretch of games they've been getting it done... hope they get some good rest and come back ready to work really hard to end the season. Also, hoping against all odds some injured players can make it back AND contribute well.
If you are talking about the overturned offsides, it was the correct call. The problem is with the rule. I would prefer the NHL eliminate offside challenges. It's a minor infraction that does not give one side an advantage. The linesman get 95% of those right. For the 5% that they might miss it equals out between the two teams. Just dump the offside review rule.
My issue was that wasn’t it a zone entry before or something? The one they entered on and scored was onside. Like you said, just eliminate it all together.
If the situation had been reversed and the Habs had tied the game up.... I seriously doubt anyone would have complained about us challenging it and getting the goal disallowed.
The play was offsides because Goose didn’t keep the zone.... it’s unfortunate... and it sucks but it was the right call.
Challenge system was put in place just so we wouldn’t have team’s getting away with something. Fans wanted it..... But it’s a double edge sword.
What I dont understand is the rationale for the offside review rule. If coaches can challenge a missed offside why cant they challenge a missed penalty call?
Needing a slow motion isolated view to determine the puck was a fraction of an inch over the line or a skate was off the ice is petty. Referees have a very hard enough job.
Penalty calls have always been subjective.. There are probably dozens of calls that get missed every game. You want to add another hour to each game of players standing around just to sort out calls that get missed???
OTOH... Things like offsides and goals are absolute. Either the puck or player is over the line or it isn’t. Those can be easily sorted out.
Just imagine the optics of a playoff game being highly influenced or decided by a missed offside call when NBC has this perfect HD still frame showing exactly how the call was missed.
I'd be fine getting rid of the ability to challenge and offside call since it usually is just fractions of an inch which you can't really blame the refs for missing, but I totally understand why they have it.
It wasn't on the zone entry. It happened when Goli took a pass on the blue line and faile to hold the puck in the zone.
