Pelle Eklund had three points and Flyers' defensemen had six points. Kerr, out most of the season because of his fifth shoulder operation, played in his fourth game of the season and first since missing the previous six games; he had eight shots on net and recorded his 16th career hat trick. Defenseman Doug Crossman responded with his "best game in three years. I don't know if the benching was a blow to his pride or what. But, that's as ready as I've seen him be for a game in three years and it showed. That's the most active Doug has been all year. He played a major role in the win," said head coach Mike Keenan.

In July 1989, the Flyers traded Shawn Cronin to the Jets for futures but the Flyers canceled the Jets' owing anything in return in order to protect Peeters and Acton in the waiver draft -- something the Jets could do because they had available space while the Flyers did not. In December 1989, the NHL ruled the transaction was against League rules and fined the Flyers and Jets $10,000 each claiming the bylaws stipulated that loaning of players is prohibited. NHL President John Ziegler said that even though there was no evidence to contradict the teams' claimed innocence ''the absence of a legally binding agreement to retrade does not mean there was no loan of the players. All legal niceties aside, the bottom line is that immediately prior to the waiver draft, the players belonged to Philadelphia and immediately after the draft, they belonged to Philadelphia. In the interim, they were protected from the draft. It is clear to me this was a loan of players.''

The Coyotes appeared to even the game late in the first period on Jeremy Roenick's goal but replays clearly showed Daniel Briere's skate was in the crease. "It could've been a different game, that was a big break at that point," Vanbiesbrouck said. "It took a bit of the life out of them. Everybody was going to think they were tied, but when it doesn't happen, you have a tendency to let down. We took advantage of that, especially in the second period." Michal Handzus, also acquired in the same deal, had two points in a span of 2:05 in the second period, including the eventual GWG. Ossi Vaananen picked up a minor 1:15 into the game accompanied by an unsportsmanlike minor to Landon Wilson (verbal abuse) and Eric Desjardins capitalized with a PPG on the full 5-on-3. The Flyers had five PPs in the first period including two 5-on-3s. Branko Radivojevic and Shane Doan gave Phoenix a 2-1 lead in the second period. Then came the game's turning point: Kim Johnsson (1-2-3) tied it 2-2 and Darcy Hordichuk was ejected for making contact with ref Mark Faucette (Hordichuk was suspended ten games by the NHL and didn't return until November 27). Phoenix made roster moves and lineup adjustments for Thursday's game as indicated in post #1.

Mason is the likely goalie tonight. Phoenix played last night in Detroit.

Gustafsson, Gill and Newbury appear to be the scratches again tonight; that will be confirmed near game-time.

Flyers' practice schedule:

  • FRI: 10:30 am ET at Skatezone in Voorhees (optional skate).
  • SAT: 11:30 am ET in Detroit.
  • SUN: None scheduled.

Last year was painful. The line juggling at the start of the season contributed to a terrible start for Giroux. The same damn thing is happening this year. I know it's early and I should give Berube some leeway, but I really don't like what he has done with the first line. Hartnell and Simmonds are similar styles. Having two net crashers on a line with G just seems awfully dense. I'm not sure I even like it on the PP as it limits most passing to G/Jake/Timmo, and I think that is too easy for the opposition to only worry about blocking 2 passing lanes for the most part.

I still don't know why it took Laviolette so long to realize that Voracek & Giroux should play together, nor why he would break them up after how they looked last year. Of all the forwards that Giroux played with, the biggest impact on his Corsi numbers is Jake. Link

To me the lines would be much better balanced if Hartnell & Simmonds were on separate lines:
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Talbot-Couturier-Read

Keep Schenn & Couturier on separate lines. I know they had success in the AHL, but they don't have that in the NHL and their numbers show it. Most importantly though is stop juggling the lines and give them time to get some chemistry.

I'll be at this game! My first Flyers game since Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010!!

Can't wait, I hear it's dollar dog night too (i'm gonna try and beat Coatse's record)

Hopefully I'm a good luck charm cause last time Giroux scored in OT. I'm hoping to see him get his first point(s) of the season on Friday!

I'd really like to see Gus play on Friday. Why do we put Meszaros on the powerplay?

enforcer -good faceoff center-fighter who hit hard can score 15 goal
lol watch pens and huricannes

Rinaldo hasn't even eclipsed the 5 goal mark let alone 15. Hell he only has 5 goals in 102 career NHL games. When did he suddenly become a 15 goal scorer?

I like Rinaldo & think he's a solid 4th liner but he brings basically zero offense let alone 15 goals.

Rinaldo is NOT a 15 goal scorer. Rosehill is basically not an NHL player.

So we have a decent 4th line center and a guy who hits hard. Not sure how that eclipses Boston's 4th line, for instance, or even trumps Pittsburgh.

Now, Lappy, Betts, and Powe were a great 4th line.

I was OK with them not resigning Gagne when I thought he wanted $2m, but now maybe it would be worth giving him half that just so they can replace Rosehill with Talbot on the 4th line.

Such a great line on a great team. Miss those guys and glad to see Lappy as a coach.

With that being said I actually love to see Rosehill on this team in the regular season. With a player like Rinaldo checking everything that moves having Rosehill out there takes a lot of heat off of Rinaldo and lets him play his game better. As long as he can play defense and keep up with the play I am fine with him. Come playoff time he will be benched.

One thing I am looking forward to this game is to see how much chemistry the Schenn/Vinny/Voracek line has again. They looked good last game. Sharp passes from Vinny and Voracek so Schenn has to keep getting in good position and putting in some goals.

And one other thing I am looking for is to see Hartnell crash the net more on even strength play. He may have a good slap shot from the slot but that doesn't mean that is the only spot he can play on offense. Let him be there on the pp sure because that frees up more people, but come time for even strength I like him better in front of the net causing havoc.

Either way lets get another win :yo:

I am one of the people wanting Gagne back to put with Couts. Gagne/Couts/Read would be looking a lot better than Talbot/Couts/Read and it would have done a lot for his development on the offensive side.
