There's nothing damning other than the usual Smith is injured, can't go talk. Tippett didn't seem happy about it and was very blunt in the presser, so it sounds like he probably should have played or is trying to sit out for another reason. Maybe he doesn't want to risk a bad game or injury before he hits free agency. I'm pretty sure Smith faked a concussion or injury around the deadline so he wouldn't be traded away from his family.

Doan's quote was in response to a general question about if the team would push on while unlikely to make the playoffs. He was only asked about how much it hurt not having Smith in there to which Doan stood up for Barbs, he never made any comments specific to Smith or him not playing. As for Tip's quotes:

Seems like we only saw bursts of effort from all of the lines except for Moss/Gordon/Klinkhammer, who were putting in strong efforts all night.

That line doesn't have enough talent to get by without strong effort, so no surprise there.

What are thoughts about Tipp's "we need players who are going to have an impact on the game" refrain? He's disappointed about skill, not effort, right?

It can be hard to tell with those soft-tissue injuries, you know. Sometimes they don't show up on any tests, but man they hurt.
