TONIGHT’S GAME

The Bruins host the Hurricanes tonight for the first of three games between these teams and the first of two at TD Garden … The Bruins are 22-10-6 this season and are 13-5-3 on home ice thus far … They are 6-3-3 against Metropolitan Division foes and 12-4-5 against the Eastern Conference.

The Bruins will next face the Penguins in Pittsburgh tomorrow before enjoying their 5-day bye break … They will return from that break to play the Canadiens in Montreal on 1/13.

They are opening tonight their 7th of 14 sets of back-to-back games this season … They are currently 4-1-1 in the 1st game of those sets and are 2-3-1 in the 2nd games so far.

BOSTON vs CAROLINA, LIFETIME SERIES

The Bruins and Hurricanes are meeting for the 198th time in their histories (includes Carolina as Hartford Whalers) with the Bruins having a 104-70-16-7 record and 664-570 scoring advantage in those contests.

The Bruins are 57-32-7-3 in 99 games played between the teams in Boston with a 335-256 scoring edge.

The Bruins have taken points out of their last 12 games vs. the Hurricanes at 7-0-5 with their last regulation loss to Carolina a 4-2 road setback on Apr. 13, 2013 … They are 5-0-2 in their last 7 vs. Carolina in Boston and they are 10-3-2 in their last 15 home games vs. the Hurricanes.

Fun Fact: The Bruins are 34-29-3-7 vs. Carolina since they relocated from Hartford at the start of the 1997-98 season.

Will Tuukka Rask get both starts for Bruins this weekend? - The Boston Globe

Out of action since Tuesday’s 5-1 thumping of the Islanders, the Bruins take on the Hurricanes Saturday night at TD Garden, looking to sustain their blistering 16-3-2 streak that has left them in fourth in the Eastern Conference standings and second only to Tampa in the Atlantic Division.
Coach Bruce Cassidy will name his starting goalie following the Saturday morning workout in Brighton. Backup Anton Khudobin is the likely choice, which would leave top stopper Tuukka Rask rested for Sunday night’s game in Pittsburgh — the club’s last game prior to a scheduled three-day break.

The NHL stats computer lists this as Bruins game #40 so that is why the game number is off by 1.

Carolina has been playing good hockey. It's not flashy but I can see this as a tough game for Boston.

Went out briefly to the Recycle park. BRRRRR! :cold:
Also be cautious driving and slow down, some people are just shooting out into intersections from behind big snowbanks. :shakehead
Looking forward to watching some hockey tonight! :towel:

Yeah, Carolina is no slouch. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.

I hope the extra day off helps the B's win tonight.

Go Bruins!!!!

Thanks Fenway!

It is brutally cold here too so I sympathize with those fans having to be outside for any length of time. I will be next to the fireplace watching the game.

I am hoping for another strong game and would love to see Bergy and Krug reach their point milestones tonight. Pasta needs a goal!

GO BRUINS!!!

Love Aho --drafted him in my keeper in 2015 and will never, ever trade him as he is one of my favourite players in the league-- he's driving much of their offence right now. I think he has something like 25pts in his last 25 games and will be an interesting match-up for McAvoy and Carlo.

Doesn't matter where a team is in the standings . There are no easy games . But B's are the better team and if they come out strong they'll win this one

Do not like playing this team, they are quick, non-physical and hard working, they can keep the rink real quiet with their bland but effective brand of hockey.

Flashback:
Carolina Hurricanes vs Boston Bruins, April 10th, 2010. The Bruins started the second period on the penalty kill, and score 3 shorthanded goals in 64 seconds. They are the only team in NHL history to score 3 times on the same penalty kill.

Was that the same game as Bergeron's goal line save?

I'm all for some Dobby tonight and Rask tomorrow. Khudobin's definitely proved himself worthy of getting some action. Dobby needs some ice time, and there's no time better than a back-to-back...keeping Rask's GP down in the low 60s would be great. They'll both have the chance to get rested up with the bye week coming up.

Ugh. Bye week. What will we do?

Bring back the Whale!!!!!!!

I wish I could find the tape but back in 1990 TV38 had a feature called 'Derek's Key To The Game'.

Before a Game 7 Fred Cusick asks Sanderson what the key to tonight's game was?

Derek replied - SCORE MORE GOALS THAN HARTFORD

Bring back the Whale!!!!!!!

that was tried , actually by MSG, BEING duped into a contract with Howard Baldwin/Whalers Sports and Entertainment, where the Wolf*Pack became the Whale for 2 seasons.... I believe the NHL has the trademark on Whalers, based off the retro polls
