The Flyers really need to stop winning. The fact that they seem to win every night that we do is really annoying (I know they've only won 3 straight, but still...)

We can go up 2 over .500 and decrease our differential to -11... We have a nice streak going...
Yup, four more wins in a row and we will be back to .500 (winning half your games).

Its all semantics...
  • .500 if talking wins we are four games under
  • .500 if talking points we are there (this is a lame system designed by the NHL just to dupe fans of crappy teams into thinking their crappy team is better than they really are)
  • .500 is colloquially used as a term meaning "average". NHL.com offers us the stat "Point Percentage" (total points acquired divided by total points possible). Caps lead the league in Point Percentage @ .770 and the Wings are at the bottom @ .284. Median Point Percentage (average is more work than I want to do this morning) is .564. So you have to adjust what you consider to be .500. The CBJ are currently @ .528 so IMO the CBJ need to raise that Point Percentage by .036 to get back to .500.

Possibly your best post ever.

Other than the wins over the Caps there is nothing to be overly impressed with during this stretch. Most of the points were achieved against bottom feeders. Lets see how the Jackets do during the upcoming stretch of games.
To be fair, that does constitute "winning the games you should win", which was not exactly a given in October.

The Metro has like 5 of the top 9 teams in the entire league by winning %. CBJ remain 7 back of WC2, despite recent point streak.

The playoff format remains unbelievably stupid. Just go back to 1-8 by conference, and let the top 2 in each division by auto bids. Statistically, things *should* even out, but it's going to be incredibly frustrating if the 6th-place Metro team misses out despite outplaying the 3rd-place Atlantic team.

Then why have divisions? Also TB will more than likely prevent your doomsday scenario from happening. What happens if 6th place Metro outplays 2nd place Atlantic?

Playoff format should be division winners get 1-2 seeds, then the rest is decided by who has the most points.

Under this format, last years playoff matchups would have been

TB-CBJ WSH-CAR BOS-PIT NYI-TOR

CGY-COL NSH-DAL SJ-VGK WPG-STL

Not a whole lot of changes but it matters for the later rounds
