Sounds like they have an Augeresque beef with a certain official.

Does seem that way. On the one hand, typical whiny fans. On the other hand, if anyone knows about officials having team-specific beefs, it's Canuck fans, so it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Refs are humans after all, and hardly immune to bias. There was a very clear decision to swallow the whistles outside of the must-calls tonight, and without question that played into our favor.

Honestly, if we didn't get those 3 unforced errors (TooManyMan + 2 Delay of games) they would have probably won this game. They outplayed us, our special teams just outperformed theirs on the day.

But yeah, the Oilers depth is such a disaster.

The oilers outplayed the Canucks in the first but Vancouver dominated the second and outplayed Edmonton in the third by a bit until Edmonton had to turn it up .. as any team down by 2 does.

Van was the better team for 40 of 60 minutes imo .

Even when Edmonton was playing well in the first I thought the Canucks boxed the oilers out and defended well

You can't blame the refs if your team getting 2 clear delay of game penalties and a CLEAR too-many-men call...

What are they supposed to do? Not call clear penalties?

by calling those super obvious penalties they are doing McDavid a disservice!

Hard Disagree.

Canucks had a good 2nd period but for most of the game they were on the back foot.

About time “home ice” worked to our advantage like it does most other teams.

They were upset that the non-auto-penalties were only 2-1 over 60 minutes in a fast, physical game, and that in our favor despite the run of play being roughly equal. Which is a fairly trivial gripe, but it certainly made it easier to contain McDavid when the officials are going with "Doesn't look like anything to me" as an officiating strategy. McDavid was getting the "You are an NHL Star" special package of hooks, holds and light roughing all night. Given he was sharing ice with Antoine Roussel, it's kind of remarkable he didn't draw any penalties, since Antoine Roussel probably commits at least three mild infractions over the course of the average family dinner, let alone a hard fought game of hockey.

Solid game by Horvat going up against McDavid. Great game by Tanev & Hutton. Edler-Tanev & Hutton-Gudbranson did a stellar job against the big speedy Oiler forwards. Pouliot-Stecher had a tough time out there, there’s only so much that Stecher can do by himself. PP looked good, Markstrom was terrific. All in all solid effort, especially considering they played yesterday.

Score effects played a big role in the third and back to back. Thought the Canucks had a good first 10 min of the third then Edmonton had to turn it up

Canucks had a fantastic second period and played a gutsy game on back to backs against a hot team.

The salty butt hurt is large over on another board...
I mean, they are a destined dynasty team blessed with the heavenly environment of Edmonton, who also happened to have a day off on Saturday, and they just lost to the dumpster fire Canucks that played on Sat and is located in a shit hole named Vancouver.:naughty:
The salts are expected.

So....which team was on the second night of a back to back?
The Oilers looked like the Oilers of old. They’d been on a good run coming into tonight.
Good game by the home team. Horvat, EP and Boeser goals. Life is good!
There are only two factors to their hot run:
McDavid
Good goaltending
Take away one of those, they are back to a dumpster fire
Cam Talbot got Todd Maclellan fired

Great game. The boys are starting to come together. If we can stay relatively healthy and get Sutter and Baertschi back were gonna be an interesting group especially with Markstrom turning a corner.

The biggest thing missing right now is some offense from the backline....Hughes cannot get here soon enough

Horvat and the matchup 5 were outstanding.

Petey and Boeser can be average 5v5 and just torch teams when you make mistakes and give them an inch or PPs . We are a completely different team in 1 year with these 2 nucleur weapons. Boeser is starting to get that snap on his shot that is ridiculous.

Not a slight on Leivo because he's been good on the walls and a good compliment but Goldobin may help some 5v5 ...hard to complain but he has a knack for creating shots for those 2...both were ok

Markstrom Motte Virtanen Hutton Stecher Beagle were outstanding soldiers in this one.

Gudbranson Granlund Gaudette Pouliot all struggled with the pace. liked Gudbransons hit on Khaira and Pouliot outleted nicely he just cant deal with the hard fast forecheck. If we can find a good top4 defenseman we could really start to do some damage

So much fun to watch this fast exciting team even with all the mistakes. The key components are all so young and learning its definitely an upward trajectory.

Starting to think the team may be for real. Just a lot better than anyone thought. Still a few players short of real contender but don't look like the train wreck e we suspected.. Like nearly everyone hoping for at least one more year of tanking but might as well enjoy the ride.

Good

Markstrom - early saves again important. Little to criticize about his play this year. Has seemingly arrived as bona vide starting NHL goal tender.

Horvat - thought he led the charge in the second to get the lead back. So consistent

Roussel - played well both ways. Has been a player that has very much added speed to the line up. Slot him in anywhere and he contributes

Edler - best player in the game. Handled McDavid and played big. Nice goal and good puck movement on the PP. It's too bad this isn't Edler every game

Tanev - made plays all game - especially with the stick check - that turned the game around and got the Canucks on offense. Him and Edler were very good. (and had to be given the presence of McDavid)

Gudbranson - got watching McDavid on the second goal and left his check alone in front but otherwise was going to the body well and eliminating people on the rush. Thought he showed some jump and was quickly getting puck up to the forwards.

Motte - when team gets bottled up in their end, Motte seems to be the player getting the puck out of trouble. Also creating offensive chances with speed. Player is somewhat a reminder of Hansen and maybe like Hansen can develop a little more finish around the net. Appears to be close to producing some goals.

Not Good

Goldobin - basically a no show. Lackadaisical and looked not ready to compete. Not in the play 5 on 5. Made the one pass to Pettersson on the PP but that was it.

Pouliot - like playing a man short. Play whirled around him as he plodded around trying to keep up with it. Canucks playing a fast moving game to reduce time in their own end but every time Pouliot got the puck things bogged down and Canucks reduced to scrambling the puck out. Coverage was often dreadful. Don't know why Biega is in ahead of him even if he has to switch sides. Nothing could be much worse than Poo.

Others

Virtanen - not really bad but one of those games were he, at times, zoned out when he had the puck and didn't seem to know what to do with it.

Levio - could see some of the glitches in his play in this game. Gets standing at times and at other times glides out of the play. You wonder about focus.

Boeser - scores three points but still, to me, struggling with skating and making too many errant passes. Seems to get off balanced and lacks the smoothness he showed last year. Everything seems to be going in but I think overall play needs to improve. Makes you think he can get huge point totals if he can pick up his skating.

Pettersson - can always make a couple of plays that can turn a game in your favour. Has brilliant shot along with everything else. However, in this game made some defensive gaffes that hurt the team.

Gaudette - no shortage of speed but needs to be more measured how he uses it and improve his control of the puck. Looks near to being an effective player. Have to like the way he is trending.

Problem is that they have to play Draisaitl with McDavid because their wingers depth is laughable

Oh yeah absolutely.

The whole thing is driven by McD, when he's not at it, no one can step it up.

This is the kinda stuff that will kill you in playoffs.

The Oilers basically have no way out of mediocrity for the next few seasons. Literally, their only hope for future improvement is if Bouchard turns into a top pairing defenseman. Otherwise, the team right now is what we'll be seeing for the next couple of seasons.

Completely agree across the board. Motte had a great game for the role he was placed in and think Gaudette has had the best weekend of his young NHL career in these last two games. Jake was in a bit of a nether-world this game BUT I think it was because the team was focusing on D first and he was fighting his go-go-go instincts and possibly thinking a bit too much out there.

Still, some great strides... Green has this team believing.
