He leads the team in minutes..and as some have pointed out including Meltzer when he was commenting on Carle..the plus/minus goes with the territory so to speak. It was the same here just that he wasn't paid as much as he is in Tampa now so to an extent I can understand their griping but minus 3 for all that icetime is not exactly horrendous. I mean I haven't followed Carle like Tampa fans or anything but I'm wondering how much of their griping is exaggerated although for that money it does seem Carle should be producing much more..once again similar to Bryz it comes down to the money and the ROI.

Its not about his lack of production, and its not really an exaggeration. Its moreso him just being a lazy player at some points and giving away the puck too easily. He's too experienced, and too expensive to be doing that, then again, look at a player like Jay Bouwmeester. Some players just dont have that drive. Not saying Carle is like him, but he definitely slacks off and plays like a public session of pick up hockey at some points. And yes, he has the softest shot Ive ever seen. Gomez shoots harder.

Sounds like an indictment....guess the coach shouldn't be playing him so many minutes and leading the team in minutes if the stats are correct.

Well, who else do we have to fall back on? Aulie? Lee?! lol, as you see, the situation isnt that great as it is so he's our 3rd best dman behind Hedman and Salo. He got a ton of minutes last night and played pretty good, for his standards, but still gives it away too easily.

If our depth was great, i'd love to see him and brewer on the 3rd pair, and on the pk(brewer) and on the pp(carle) but thats just not the case as on defense, we just havent struck oil in quite some years.

This sounds like the dilemna pointed out by myself and others last year; teams that have to play Carle a whole lot are probably teams that won't go far. If he's used in a complementary role, all is well. If a team has to cart him out in a primary role, something is probably wrong there.

The guy is a really good complementary player to a better defenseman. He just seems to be in over his head the majority of the time if he's asked to pull the load himself.

yeah, and Im not sure when he'll ever figure it out that he needs to put an effort in every shift...

He's been in the league for several years now, he needs to learn from his mistakes and progress, not just make the careless play just to avoid a hit or get it out. But yes, he's the kind of guy that if you're looking at your defense or powerplay and see him as your #5/6 or the guy fighting for that last spot, you've probably got a deep team in the playoffs cause he can focus on his play with limited minutes, well, this hasnt been the case for most of his career, and if a defenseman isnt brought in this summer, it'll most likely be the case for his team and himself another year. He's not a top 2, and Im not so sure he's suited to even get top 4 minutes consistently. He's good, but inconsistent and careless. He does his job, but thats about it, and its obviously asking too much for him at times.

All the sarcasm from you funny guys won't help Bryz make saves. He's #37 with a .885 Save% and a 2.80 GAA. He faced 26 shots last night and his defense was not horrible as you make it seem. He gave up 3 goals on 26 shots. He averages 3 goals against and that means we have to score four or more to win every night, that's not feasible.

Bryz was brought in because we need and elite goalie. He gets paid to be an elite goalie and he is not playing like one. Most games we're behind the score from the get go.

He gets outplayed by backups and starters, he just plain gets outplayed by the other teams goalie. Sure our defense is a work in process and we give up some plays, but Bryz was brought here to make a difference. He is making a difference, one for the worse.

All we hear is "how can you blame him on that one". how about "he saved our bacon on that one, or "Bryz carried the team tonight". He just doesn't. He just doesn't cut it.

If you don't understand that the goalie is the most important player on the team just look at the Devils. Same coach, same player, same defensive scheme. Since Brodeur got hurt and Hedberg took over they are 3-7-1.

Bryz was brought in because we need and elite goalie.

EVERY goalie since Hexy's 12st run was brought in because we need an elite goalie.

roughly 20 years.

roughly 20 years of it always being the goalie's fault around here. always.

and now Flyers fans get the added phrase of "and look at his contract !!!"

yup, all we need is another goalie, with a smaller contract & the CUP = OURS

Excuse me .885 last night .898 overall. Happy. It's not like he's not getting goal support, we are 7th in offense and 7th on the power play.

His end and the defense we are 24th of 30. The defense has yet to jell, but Bryz has been around long enough to be better.

Time to bench him, we have nothing to lose at this point.

Hey, Holmgren and Snider made a mistake. But it's time to let go, Bryz doesn't work on this team. Soulda kept Bob. Same mistake.

Put Boosh and Leighton back in, at least we can say that the goalies aren't elite and thats why we lose. By the way, that tandem put us within a whisker of the cup.

By the way when was the last time the Flyers developed their own goalie? Everybody since Boosh has been somebodies backup except for Bob.

There was Nitty. Maybe he would've been the one to break the spell if not for the hip issues.

what did we hear last year ??

"if we had QUICK, he's ELITE !!! !!!" [39th iv sv % this year]
"if we had Rinne, he's a STUD !!" [20th in sv % this year]
"Smith is doing better in PHX than Bryz did, if we had HIM !!!" [34th in sv % this year]
"WAS really got lucky with Holtby .... we should pry away Lindback from NASH !!" [25th & 31st respectively in sv % this year]

yup, just need a better, lower paid goalie & no more turnover worries, bad team D worries, bad penalty worries, Briere or Couts or Mez worries .... EVERYTHING would be fine !!

at this point, i hope they DO amnesty him & take away the scapegoat. bring Biron back & the CUP = ours.

and nobody will complain about the goaltending

Again nobody everybody ever said anything about Mike Smith being a great goalie. Lindback? Where do you come up with this stuff?

Rinne and Holtby at least have a save percentage over .911. Bryz is struggling to get past the .900 mark. Quick's having a bad year I'll admit that. He's coming off surgery in a short offseason. He just carried his team in a Stanley Cup win, I think he deserves a pass for his poor performance so far.

He's currently posting up the worst sv% the franchise has seen since about 1994-5. It's not like the criticism is unwarranted. Bryz and Briere are whipping boys; that's understandable, considering their cap hits compared to production.

Just to appease BP1974, I think we should name the next iteration of the goaltending thread "We want Mike Smith or Anders Lindback!"

all we really want is a goal tender who earns his salary cap.

wether it be the cheap older short term goalie on a low $$$ contract or some other high $$$ stud who actualy plays well day in day out.

no one will blame a few bad games/goals here or there, but not month after month...
