Bratislava 2019 didn't hurt one bit. I was so tired of how poorly coached that team was that I wanted Grönborg to have that failure.
we have to same problem. helminen is a horrible coach

Not a chance... IMO anyways.

I think the deadly trio are all going to split points up by the time they're done playing each other... all of those games will be amazing and close. I can't see a team (even as good as Canada) running the table in that group. I'd be shocked if they don't finish 1-2-3 and I'm a very fanatic Czech fan.lol

If you split the CAN/RUS/USA head to head points evenly it's 3 each. Russia would then have 6 if they beat Germany. If Czechs beat Germany they'd also have at least 6 and win the tiebreaker assuming no Germany upset with Canada/USA. Of course Germany's got a good team so assuming they lose to everyone is a fools game, but Russia is likely going to need at least 4 points from Canada/USA to avoid 4th place in the pool.

I'd bet on Sweden/Russia, and Finland/Czech Republic QF at this point but it's early.

Svechnikov literally proves that the move works in NHL and with nearly no speed at all. No chief, this ain't it. It has been just underused as all hell and that's why the myth of NHL defenders being able to defend against it was born.

That’s the opposite of it. “Nearly no speed at all” is not consistent with the way Svechnikov lifts the puck with a flick behind the net, before the defense or goaltender know what he’s doing.

It’s literally a different move than Hoglander’s. The only thing in common is the finish.

Let's slow down on the Czechs beat Germany talk.. I'll be here all morning on Saturday.lol

Czechs getting 6 points would be awesome but feels optimistic given team and pool... we'll see.

Germans would be wise to lose to States and take it easy and then do their absolute best to beat us. I'd honestly play the backup given the 18 hour gap in games. They were given an unfortunate draw (note: by the Czechs.lol) as they play US tomorrow and then Czechs on Saturday morning.

My point is that the top 3 will end up being the Top 3... Russians, US and Canada all look really good. States barely played some phenomenal players today in some really weird coaching decisions. Canada looks ready to run the table. Russia will bounce back. It's day 1 and a crazy pool. The other pool I feel has already determined 1st and 2nd simply because 3 of the Top 5 are over here. Crossovers will be fantastic.

That Canada/US game was on another level today... I think Russia can keep up with both. We'll see.

My views won't change for this tourney.. there are 5 teams competing for 3 medals and nothing will surprise me unless one of those 5 don't medal.

I'm not saying Russia isn't better than the Czechs. I think anyone who watched the games today would know who the best 3 teams in this pool is. However given the upset, the likely scenario is Russia will need at least 4 points from Canada/USA to avoid 4th. That doesn't mean they're the 4th best team in this pool they're not, they might be the best. Russia could win both games and finish 1st. This is coming from someone who had the Czechs/Germany game as a 50/50 proposition entering the tournament. It's entirely possible that still is the case. Beating Russia in regulation changes the way the standings will look dramatically. Obviously it's not a lock but it's a tremendous start. If I was a betting man I'd want at least 3 to 1 odds to bet on Russia to finish top 3 in the pool after today's results. TBH I think 1st is the second most likely scenario for Russia now. Win 2 of Canada/USA in regulation they likely win the pool. If they only win 1 and lose the other in regulation(or lose both) it's likely 4th.

Lot of hockey to be played.. Germans beat Czechs in a very minor upset and then Canada/US steamroll us and we're gone. Having said that... Russian's were really good but just had a bad day. The trio in this pool is just stacked.. nothing will surprise me. Really looking forward to it! Also, Finland will give somebody a nasty quarter!

Based on today... I'm assuming American coaches changes up some tactics and Lafrienier flirts with some records... if he got 16 points in round robin I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

True, but if Russia(and Germany, and Czechs) lost to Canada/USA(big if) that would actually be a 3 way tie. Would come down to how much Russia beat Germany by, and how much Germany beat Czechs by. My guess would be Germany 5th after losing to Russia by the biggest margin. But yes, that's still the vital game for the Czechs.

I just think Russia/Sweden would be an insane QF. Even in 4th Russia would probably be the small favorite IMO.

I think it's a little odd how hoglander was used in the pp standing in front of the net. He's not exactly a big guy albeit stocky. He might have been better at the half boards or a little higher in the slot or better yet behind the net where he's always a threat to score. I think they could have used a bigger screen than hoglander

Im probably biased but I think Henriksson has been pretty dangerous in the offensive zone. Certainly wouldn't call him a line rider with Raymond and Holtz.

I'm more worried about the fact that he's been pretty bad in the Allsvenskan. He's the type of player whose game often doesn't translate well to pro hockey. We also draft terribly out of Sweden recently, except for Nils.

**** happends... Sweden needed goal of the tournament and save of the tournament to get into overtime and Finland was missing Kupari, Kotkaniemi, Lundell, Kakko... overall lucky win

I don't think you can hold it against a team that they scored a nice looking goal my friend.

Quarters will be really good... It's a shame about the pools as I'd say the top 2 and bottom 2 are already determined in the other pool. Our pool is pretty wide open still and I'm really curious how the Germans handle themselves. I think they have a team that could, on a good day, beat czechs, slovaks. Kazakhs and swiss. Unfortunately they have to play the US, Canada and Russia which is a whole other level.lol
