Ansar Khan: Red Wings lacked energy, didn't work hard enough in getting shut out for the second time this season

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Searching for a way to sum up his team's ugly 3-0 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday afternoon at Nationwide Arena, Detroit Red Wings Mike Babcock offered what he called “The Cliff Notes version.''

“The bottom line is we didn't work hard enough,'' Babcock said. “The hockey gods rewarded the team that worked the hardest.''

The Red Wings lacked energy. Why they didn't play hard was difficult to explain.

“I thought we were bad,'' Babcock said. “Why was that? Was that mental prep? Was that the coach never got any messages across? Lack of preparation? Did we practice too long yesterday? I don't know any of the answers to those things.

“But, the bottom line is we weren't mentally prepared to play hard enough and long enough to have success.''

Hopefully they give two ****s about this game and put in some kind of effort.

Just win, Columbus got their series win, now to taint that with a nice blowout.

Gotta save some face against the Jackets but the 2 points are the most important thing. Seeds 4-11...all within 2 points of each other.

Also about time our top 6 shows up too. They've been way too quiet lately. Datsyuk is understandable, but Z's line needs to have a good game tonight.

Not to mention that 12th and 13th, Calgary and Colorado, respectively, have played two less games than us yet are only 6 points behind. Win or loss there could quickly change that.

Thank god we don't have Columbus in our division next season. It seems everybody on this team doesn't give a crap playing against them.

Hope they show up tonight. Should do, playing at home and all, hopefully Babs unleashed the hairdryer on them after last night.

Those lines didn't work yesterday, so why not just throw them out there again ? Good job Babs.

I expect it to be a 4-2 or 5-2 win, with parts of our game, like special teams, looking pretty good in the process. Couple that with strong outings by guys like Cleary, Quincey, and Franzen, and I expect the boards to have:

1) a post game thread praising players, and people slinging mud at pro-fire Babs posters.
and
2) a "what do you think of _____ (player name)?" thread, inquiring about trading picks and prospects to get said player.

Just so we can do another 180 within roughly 24 hours, and have this mediorce season from the bowels of youknowwhere become even more mediocre.

So Babcock realized last game these lines aren't working, started changing things up and... now back to square 1 again. Good old Mike "if it's broken, why fix it?" Babcock.

We take the lead early in the first but let in an equalizer and then the GWG in the very end of the third. Another loss at 2-1.

Wings at home. Wings win 4-1.
They'll get six out of eight points during this little soft spot in the schedule before going on the road for much of the next 3 weeks.

Babcock said that Ian White will be inserted into #RedWings lineup today vs. @BlueJacketsNHL. Lashoff is a healthy scratch.

Look for him to have a huge game back.
