I don't get it, if you're going to alternate the goalies you'd have thought they would have played Emery against Ottawa and Mase for Pitts.

Expecting a couple of easy ones against. But if we keep on playing confidently, we should have a respectable chance.

Emery is a good goalie. If the team plays like they did yesterday, it won't matter. Yesterdays game was a team effort.

Except he isn't, his lateral movement is **** and he has an .897 save percentage compared to Mason's .930..behind the same exact team.

Last night was a good game all-around, but it goes both ways. We played well, the Senators played horribly. Both Edmonton and Ottawa are horrible teams as well. Edmonton is actually behind us in the standings as the second to last worst team in the league. Ottawa is 4-4-2 in their last 10 (we are 5-4-1).

We're not playing the Senators again. We're playing Pittsburgh. Although Pittsburgh has been playing poorly lately they're a much, much better team then either Edmonton or Ottawa.

Even if we win, playing Emery was a bad lineup decision. It's playing with fire, just like scratching Schenn and Gustafsson for Meszaros and Gill was.

Expecting more minor penalties than against Ottawa last night, a lot more... Rinaldo will definitely come up with something overly motivated stupid and the Pens will make them pay on the PP.

Hope they prove me wrong...

Emery had one poor game so far. His stats are out of proportion due to small sample size.

Is Mason a better goalie? Absolutely.
But it won't do him any good burning him out early this season. He has already carried a big load on his back so far with little support from the skaters. He deserves a night off from time to time.

My guess is it came down to them not wanting Mason to have six days in between tonight & next Tuesday's game.

Add in the fact that Pittsburgh has been a little sluggish of late probably made their choice a little easier for them.

If one back-to-back where the first game was against a weak team and even weaker effort burns out Mason then God help us. Any decent starter in the league can handle back-to-backs.

There's literally nothing wrong with Mason getting the start and Emery playing the next game. It's also already been pointed out several times how this game against Pittsburgh is different from the two prior.

If we were 10-4 right now, starting Emery would still be questionable but far more acceptable and reasonable. Given how fragile this team has shown to be, along with being behind in the point race - every single point matters ESPECIALLY against divisional opponents. You just came off your best effort of the season. Why break up the mojo?

There is simply no way to defend this decision at all. It's a bad move and I really hope it doesn't burn them in the end.

yeah he is.

Nice argument. That explains his piss poor lateral movement, his relegation to a backup role for the majority of his career, his .897 save percentage, and his career save percentage of .908.

He's a mediocre of average backup.

It's not even his lateral movement that slow. He's just slow in general. He's like Bryz and plays with his position, where as Mason is more athletic.
Thing is though, Ray is a lot smarter than Bryz so he uses the technique a lot better, but I still prefer mason.

Pens do such a good job with puck movement in terms of making passes West-East to get goalies to move around.

That is Emery's weakness. He's good when the puck is in front of him, but when he gets moving side to side that's really where he struggles.

And that's the Pens style.

I don't feel too good about this game (mostly Emery in net).

I am not sure if we make the playoffs but if we beats the Pens it is like making the playoffs, if we lose tonight I hope we at least have a fight or two. Go Flyers

We win tonight and the teams confidence will be sky high. Not only that, but 5 points away from a playoff spot as well. Keep stringing these victories together and we are right back into the middle of the pack. Just have to take it one game at a time, division games should always get their blood flowing, especially against the hate Pens. Let's go out and ****ing win one boys.

Let's all relax on this goalie thing. The offense is starting to look alive, and we have no idea what goes on in practice or the locker room and why a particular goalie is starting tonight. Like someone said earlier, if we can beat Pittsburgh with Bryzgalov, we can beat them with Emery.

Nobody is saying we can't beat them, we're just saying it's stupid and ridiculously makes winning that much harder to start Emery over Mason.

The offense has looked alive before and then fallen off a cliff (hello Islanders game) so let's not count on that. It's also not to be overlooked that we've played two horrible teams in a row (the first being the second worst team in the league and the second with a worse record in their last 10 games played then us).

David Poile in Pittsburgh to take in the game. People assuming he is watching for team USA, but we all know he is scouting the Flyers to trade Weber here.
