Ansar Khan: Red Wings recall forward Gustav Nyquist from Grand Rapids, place Todd Bertuzzi on injured reserve

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings have recalled forward Gustav Nyquist from the Grand Rapids Griffins for tonight's game against the Anaheim Ducks at Joe Louis Arena (7:30 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit).

The club has placed forward Todd Bertuzzi (back) on injured reserve.

General manager Ken Holland said a player, whom he wouldn't identify, is hurting. The club won't know until later this afternoon if that player is available.

Johan Franzen (hip flexor), Darren Helm (back), Mikael Samuelsson (groin) and Jan Mursak (collar bone) already are out, among the forwards.

Nyquist, 23, currently leads the Griffins and is tied for fourth in AHL scoring with 45 points (17 goals, 28 assists) in 47 games. This is Nyquist’'s second stint with the Red Wings this season. He was in uniform for Detroit’'s home opener on Jan. 22 vs. the Dallas Stars and recorded two shots on goal in 11:42 before being reassigned to Grand Rapids.

In 19 career NHL games with the Red Wings, Nyquist has one goal and six assists.

Afraid to find out who's injured.

I wish I hated Anaheim or their fans as half as much as they do us, but they really mean nothing now. Just another game. San Jose is the Cali team that I get excited for now. But even with SJ it's not a hateful feeling with me.

Looking forward to seeing Nyquist in the lineup. If Jimmy doesn't get it done tonight I'm hoping Babs will give Mrazek another start in our next game.

I think SJ and Nashville are our biggest rivals at the moment.

I'll admit, I get excited for games against the Hawks, but I have more of a personal rivalry with the fans, not the team. I actually like quite a few Hawks players. I consider St. Louis a bigger rival than them at the moment.

I don't especially dislike the Ducks anymore. Selanne, Koivu, Ryan and Fowler are all players I respect. And I think the Wings really should have tried to aquire Beauchemin when they had the chance. Still not too fond of Perry and Getzlaf though...and Niedermayer was a punk.

Tried to go off the Ducks' lineup on their GDT, but it was impossible to make out who was who.

Thanks, updated.

It's really funny that their fans think Detroit is their rival. They were so irrelevant for years I guess they needed to build up something.

No worrries - I think the GDT was based off of the practice yesterday (and the nicknames are hard to decipher sometimes even if you do hollow the team), they've been doing weird things this week (Perry was on the 3rd line at one point). The one I gave you was the one released by our beat writer as likely for tonight.

Keep pumping their own tires, if that's what makes them happy. 2007 called and wants its rivalry back.

Also, love the GDT.

Where did you get the Redwings lines? Nyquist playing with Dats?

Couldn't find a confirmation of the Red Wings lineup anywhere, but I know Nyquist is in. It's the lineup I'd like to see and it also makes a bit of sense.

Key Matchup: The Wings 25th ranked PP vs the Ducks 29th ranked PK. Something will have to give tonight, and if it be the will of the Lord, please let it be the Wings' PP that breaks out.

Thanks for the proper GDT.

Looking forward to the game. Ducks have been quite good so far this season... I think this will be a tough game for us, especially given the injuries.

Here's hoping Dats kicks Perry's ass :yo:

You know what will happen, though- the Wings score 2 early PP goals, and proceed to give up 2 shorties later in the game. The suck-factor for both special teams units will cancel each other out.

he's up but not definitely in. tatar came up several times last year and never got in a game ... supposedly there's an undisclosed injury and if that guy can't go, nyquist is in.

like most of you though, i'm hoping he gets in and babs is patient with him (same patience he's shown with tatar, who's been good, and andersson who's had a few giveaways without getting ice time cut)

update: nevermind, holland says nyquist is in
