Two teams sorting through issues on the offensive end meet when the Boston Bruins visit the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night at PNC Arena.

For the Bruins, it's a matter of recovering after a shutout loss.

For Carolina, it's doing something about a power play that has gone to waste too often.

A 3-0 home loss Saturday night to the Montreal Canadiens came without the crisp play that the Bruins have shown they're capable of producing.

"We did not execute well enough," Boston coach Bruce Cassidy said.

The Hurricanes went 0-for-3 on power plays in Sunday's 2-1 home loss to the New York Islanders. That dips Carolina to 4-for-38 on power plays this season.

"Pucks are going to go in at some point," coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "The whole group, we get a bounce here or there (and it's a different feeling)."

Carolina captain Justin Williams said the lingering misfortune on power plays is something that needs to be turned around.

"Yes, we deserved better," Williams said. "Players out there have to make plays. ... It's no secret formula. We have to find a way to get one on special teams every night. We need just a little bit more."

For some reason, the Hurricanes often have been full of quality chances in 5-on-5 situations, but those tend to be more spotty when they're skating with a man advantage.

"Maybe we just need to relax and make some plays there," Hurricanes center Sebastian Aho said. "Sometimes when we have a chance to shoot, we pass. We've got to work on it. We have to outwork them on (power plays). We do a good job with that 5-on-5."
Otherwise, Aho has had few difficulties and he'll go for outright possession of a team record in the Boston game.
Aho holds a share of a franchise record with at least one point in the first 11 games of the season.
"There's probably lots of reasons," Aho said. "You get a lot of confidence there, good linemates."
To keep the streak, Aho probably will have to convert against Boston goalie Jaroslav Halak, who's 3-0-2 this season.

The Hurricanes could turn to goalie Scott Darling for his season debut. This will be the team's third game since he was activated last week. He was out since suffering a groin injury in the preseason finale.

Bruins defenseman Matt Grzelcyk is doubtful to play after he suffered a lower-body injury against Montreal. He didn't practice Monday.

On the plus side, it could be the season debut for Bruins defenseman Torey Krug, who has been out since the preseason with a left foot injury.

"If (Cassidy) makes the decision to put me in, I'm going to be ready," Krug said. "I don't feel 100 percent, but I feel about as good as I could for the circumstances. ... I'm excited to be part of the group again."

The Bruins recalled forward Colby Cave from Providence of the American Hockey League.

Boston went 3-0-0 last season against the Hurricanes, with one of the outcomes in overtime.

This caps a three-game homestand for Carolina, which doesn't return home until Nov. 10.

Gryz out, Gotta mean Krug gets the call in even if he's not 100%.

Looks like Lauzon gets the quiet nod to stay with the team for the moment. Gonna be a real good problem if he and Vaak play well with the big club and we have too many NHL defenseman. Injuries giving the kids the showcase to show they deserve a shot.

On the other hand....The same can be inversely said for the offense. Cave has earned the call-up, but the fact that Senyshyn or Cehlarik did not get the opportunity over him is concerning. Frederick and JFK need seasoning and are getting it in Providence. Don't expect to see either up for another few months at the very least. Would love to see Frederick as our 3C by February. He has the possibility to add some elements to the team that they lack atm.

After 10 games less than 3 points each for heinen bjork Debrusk and Donato. This is unacceptable. Good lord koko had more averaging 5 mins a game under clode in 6 games he played on 4 th line

The second line is getting going with Heinen up there now. Not too worried about that. Debrusk and Krejci have had plenty of scoring chances in the past few games.

The third line, well what can I say. Donato looked better last game. Bjork is learning. Give the kids some time to learn. Kids need time to do that.
I say stick a confident Colby Cave there at C and see if he can get something going. Or leave Nordstrom in and given the 3 time to gel. Having new linemates every game can be very counterproductive.

Totally agree. It was tongue and cheek for some crap some of us take. The 2nd line has looked better. Cave on 3rd. Could be good.

Had OT goal. Played total 9 games mostly 4th line minutes. So yes didn’t do well with clode. Cassidy would have given a much much better opportunity. It’s a dam shame. Good to see Cassidy does a better job coaching the kids.

It was a shootout goal, and that doesn't count as a point.

According to Krug, he's likely to be in and isn't 100%

To be fair to Donato and Bjork, they're stuck playing with fourth-liners who are offensive black holes. It makes the lack of a #3 C with some offense all the more concerning. If Boston had one, then Donato and Bjork could flank him and Kuraly, Nordstrom, Wagner, Acciari and Backes could rotate where they belong: on the fourth line.

I want entertainment tonight, not a repeat of that terrible performance from Saturday night. They are so much better than they played against the Habs. I have faith in this team despite all the negativity around these parts. It is the end of October and we have had quite the merry-go-round on the roster, so they have done well so far in my opinion.

GO BRUINS!!!

Koke did, I thought he only scored in the shootout. I think DeBrusk has three goals, on pace for 24 not bad?

I'm not crazy about Krug coming back less than 100%, there is a good chance he'll re-injure that ankle. I think Lauzon has done well during his call up. Unfortunately Vaak gets an incomplete grade because of that POS elbowing him in the face.

I agree, normally I would err on the side of caution with a Krug return, but this team needs the offensive infusion that he brings.

Need something out of Bjork and Donato tonight. Heinen I'm not AS worried about... but Christ, pot a goal, any of you.

I expect the first line to get back to scoring. I'm going with 3-2 for the Bruins.
