In a game of results, losing to Washington isn't all that bad. Should be easy to move on.

Yet watching this game felt like satire. Rask unprepared, not his fault, except it kinda was. Halak, like Khudobin, wins over fans by showing some fight. Chara with some bad pinches. Bottom six being experienced "defensive specialists" yet losing 7-0. Krejci's pace being easy to criticize. Marchand frustrated.

Yes, it's one game, but it had a lot of recurring gags which turned old long ago.

I'd like to see management live up to their word about playing the best players - Bjork, Cehlarik and Vaakanainen should be in this lineup over Acciari, Donato/Backes and Grzelcyk.

Marchand Bergeron Heinen
Debrusk Krejci Pasta
Cehlarik Kuraly Bjork
Nordstrom Backes Wagner

I agree except I am not convinced just yet that Vaakanainen is better than Grzelcyk and don’t think it would have been a good idea to throw the kid to the wolves in his first game against the Caps . Grz had a bad game no doubt about that but he was far from alone and was a pleasant surprise last year .

Well, just finished the DVR, what a disaster. Not much else to say, really. Halak looked decent, Moore looked okay, and even Tuuka wasn't *that* bad. The rest of the team? Somewhere between blah and awful.

No chance Brad gets suspended for winning a fight. Eller dropped the gloves, and Marchy messed him up well after both players were engaged in the fight and Eller had thrown punches. Now if Marchy had opened up his head while Eller still had gloves on and didn't want to fight then, yeah, likely suspension. It was nothing more than an instigated fight, and one player dominating the other. Refs made the right call. No further action warranted.

I think this game really highlighted the fact that the Bergeron line needs to be split up in order to spread around the scoring depth.

Shinzawa: 'Embarrassing' effort shows Bruins are not ready...

WASHINGTON — In Wednesday’s season opener, the Bruins did not look like a team that left for China on Sept. 11 and returned well before the sun rose on Sept. 20.

They looked like a team still lost in Beijing.

Whoever the 20 imposters were in Black-and-Gold uniforms at Capital One Arena, they did not resemble NHL players. The Bruins were thrashed, 7-0. It could have been worse, given the way they ceded chance after chance after chance, especially in the first period.

“Well, there’s a lot,” Bruce Cassidy when asked about his biggest worry after such a shameful performance. “But I think our lack of competitive spirit.”

When it comes to detailing the Bruins’ shortcomings, it is a good thing the Internet is without boundaries. Were this a print publication, there would be a sudden shortage on paper and ink.

On second thought, the more efficient route would be to note the one player who performed to his expected threshold: Jaroslav Halak, waved into action after Tuukka Rask waved at yet another puck.

In 32:32 of relief action, Halak stopped 16 of 18 shots. One of those saves was the kind that set off alarm bells in every goalie: an Alex Ovechkin slap shot right off the squash.

“I guess he was our best player,” Cassidy said. “That’s probably never good when your backup goalie’s your best player.”

Woof, had to come back here after I got 7 diseases from the main board Marchand thread.

Hoping for a big dub tomorrow night. Buffalo is no Washington, and Ottawa on Monday... would like to get two wins over the long weekend.
