How is he playing for Sweden in the Hlinka cup?
He played 2 games out of 5. He was the starter against Slovakia and Canada (round robin). He had a tough first period against Slovakia, but I thought he did pretty well the rest of the tournament. He is very athletic and he can see the puck from anywhere. The biggest part to work on imo is his glove positioning. He let that glove to low many times, but for the rest, he was already a solid goalie.

2021 is too far away. After this tournament I can see why teams are getting excited about him. You just don't see goalies that technically proficient and that smart at 15yo. If he was draft eligible this season he'd be the easy no. 2 choice behind Spencer Knight in terms of goalies for this years draft. I can easily see NHL scouts sending video of Wallstedt to their team's goalie coach and that goalie coach marking the 2021 NHL draft date on their calendar. The fact that he's already at the high level he is and has three full season to continue improving.

And there are some aspects of his game he needs to iron out. The biggest one being the reliance he puts on his size or to put it in another way he uses his size as a crutch. This crutch/reliance was abused by Canada in the round robin game resulting in three of the four goals scored (Pass off of the boards, early RVH leading to the short side goal, and not quick enough to get into position on the GWG). You see it in his rebound control as well where he knows he's in perfect position so just lets the shot hit him rather than actively pushing it into the corner/non-dangerous area. The last issue is just getting used to his pro-sized frame. He has the mechanics it's just getting about getting quicker in moving around the crease.

Jesper has started the season playing for Lulea's J18 team. In his 1st match, he let in 3 goals, having a .917 save percentage. Will definitely get promoted to the J20 team later this season. The goaltenders of the J20 are not that strong and I don't see Jesper having to fight much to be Lulea's J20 starting goaltender in the next couple of months.

Wallstedt is already the starting goalie in J20. He played for them today and they won.

Will only suit up for J18 games when they play against Modo, Timrå or Skellefteå. Every other team in that division is trash and I can't imagine him playing in those games.

Fair enough, Eliteprospects says he only played 1 J18 game. I guess they are slow in updating stats.

Currently watching the World Under-17 Challenge and just realised what a great name he has for a goalie the way they pronounce wallstedt :thumbu:

Small bump, he is moving between the U18 and the U20 teams. He is also a stable goalie for Sweden's U17 and U18 team. Here are his stats so far:

Small bump for Jesper "The Wall" Stedt , he is being rotated between being the 1st goalie and backup, but mostly he is the primary goalie for Luleå U20. Here are his stats so far:

According to numbers, he is not so special.

Accurate assessment looking at the average stats but he is still 16 playing in a U20 league which is pretty rare. He got a ton of hype early and it will be tough to live up to the expectations many have set for the kid (notice Lundqvist comparison!). HE was a big kid early at 6'3 and 200 at 14/15 so he was there physically at a young age so the phenom and hype train left the barn. Goalie development isnt a straight line but he seems to have a bright future ahead him if he can handle the pressure. The late 2002 birthdate also helps as he gets another season to develop and wont be able to be drafted until 2021.

If he continues trending he might compete for 1st overall. Be the first since Fleury.

However, a team would need to be stacked pretty much everywhere else to take him, or '21 will need to be weak.

He's quite a story and there's still 2 more years of it.

Hopefully he'll be at the world juniors.

No. Goalie just isn't an important enough a position. It's never been a good idea.

Still, I guess 2021 would be the year when it'd technically be possible. At this point, it looks a lot weaker than any surrounding draft.
