A super short 18 year old goalie, 5 foot 6 - 5 foot 7, though weighs 185 pounds.

Chad Arsenault
From Saint Raphaël, QC
18 years old
Undrafted

Wasn't drafted to the NHL in his 1st draft year.

He is currently having his rookie season in the Q, has had an....
interesting say the least, start to his Q and major junior career.

Because of his height, he probably will never get drafted nor will ever get to
play in the NHL, probably never in the AHL either,..but alas.....

You never know with these things, not really, maybe he is the player,
goalie that is the 1st one to brake the barriers of short, really short goalies,
never know... | the reason why i decided to create this thread
and the facts what are below :)

In 3 games this season so far, he has faced 40 saves per game, in avg, he faced over 50 last night.
He has allowed only 4 goals so far in 3 games, has a record of 2 W 1 L.

His save% is 97,...considering the amount of shots he has faced...
no rookie goalie has ever had a start of such in the Q by the way,
nor faced so many shots as he has faced, in first 3 career games.

Also, the team he plays for...one of the worst in the Q,
but they have won 2/3 games because of him
- only 7 goals for this season so far

Man..he might be tiny but, damn he has been great,
faced another 35 shots tonight, gets another W for his team.

Made some awesome saves vs Halifax.

4 games played, have gotten 4 x 3 star selections.
as an 18 year old rookie goalie.

What a comeback from Arsenault, allowed 3 goals in the first, but that didn't make a number on him
faced 35 shots in the game and got the W in the end. Titan keeps winning.

Chad has 4-1 record with a .942 sv%

The amount of shots he has faced this season....unreal
yet again faced above 40 shots...but gets the W anyways.

5-1 Record - .940 SV% - 2.25 GAA

11 team points out of maximum 12

BTW. the long time bottom feeder Titan leads the Q
7 wins, 15 points from 8 games.

I’ll take the memorial cup any day. And this season you need to take with a large grain of salt, the teams they keep playing are not good at all. Have they faced any good competition I doubt this would be the same story. All of the “top dogs” are out in Quebec.

Sure, his GAA and SV% has significantly gotten worse
but considering for whom he plays for and the amount of saves he faces every game
+ the team points he has collected so far and the fact that he is a undersized rookie goalie,
he has had an amazing season so far.

Has faced almost 400 shots in his first 10 career Q games.
3.40 GAA .908 SV% | 6 W 4 L record, 14 team points (Titan with 20 points this season)

Plays for a team that’s 2 points behind 1st in the division

Really good goalie, really good, his height thou...you never know but damn he looks so small, looking at those game highlights,
doesn't even really look 5 foot 7, looks smaller than that.

Got another W, after facing 44 shots, now 16 team points (out of 20) already won for the Titan,
The team playing front of him just allows sooooo many shots against. avg almost 40 each game.
- sometimes more than 50

Dude just gets those wins.

I'm not someone that thinks a goalie's height matters. If someone can keep the puck out of the net and put up good SV%'s consistently, they will find their way to the NHL.

But those discussions are usually talking about players who are 5'10, 5'11, 6'0, even 6'1. A 5'7 goalie really needs to be that much better than everyone else, and his numbers aren't that good. He might do well enough to keep a starting role in junior hockey, but I cannot see how a 5'7 hockey who can't even dominate junior hockey in his D+1 season is going to make the NHL. If he proves me wrong, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong, but I highly highly doubt it.

Unfortunately, guys like this won't have opportunities in the pros unless it is lower tier. In the last 25 years there are been so few goalies under 5'10" in the pros and being under 6 feet is pretty rare in the NHL.

Bob Goepfert was listed at 5'10' but looked 5'8". He was a damn good goaltender and played in Austria and Germany...That is the last guy I can think of that short.

Guys like Benjamin Conz, Marek Schwartz and George Sorensen have played well at the world juniors only to find it really tough in the pros. All the best to Arsenault though, special for someone that size.
