Trying to gauge Scheel's long-term potential after two strong seasons playing for the Fighting Sioux (admittedly one of the top defensive teams in the country in 2019-20).

Scheel spent two years in the NTDP program but was not drafted in his first year of eligibility as Notre Dame's Dylan St. Cyr started the bulk of the games (he also has yet to be drafted).

He was listed in the CS rankings in his second year of eligibility after a big season at Penticton in the BCHL and attended Sabres' development camp last summer after an impressive freshman season in Grand Forks.

This past year he emerged as the starter out of training camp and was having an outstanding season before being injured. The Sioux were riding the hot hand of Columbus draft pick Peter Thome before the season was shut down.

What is Scheel's long-term potential? Size and numbers seem to be in his favor.

Just took a look at his stats. Is he playing as good as his stats show, compared to other Texas Stars goalies ?

I was just looking at them too, his first couple pro games weren’t great but he’s playing really well now just looking at his numbers. Anyone watching Texas Stars games?

Unfortunately, looks like things leveled off.

Led the Stars in games played but was also in the ECHL for a bit and "the other" Matt Murray started both games in the playoffs.

Was Scheel injured or was it just a matter of riding the hot goalie?

Riding the hot hand that got the Texas Stars to the playoffs in the first place . Dallas called up Scheel as third goalie for the playoffs too.

I also think next Matt Murray #2 gets an ELC and Scheel will have to compete with him longer for the Texas net .
