Between Eric Staal or Cam Ward. Who is more likely to make the hall?

Staal:
-Will most likely reach 1000 points.
- Triple Gold Club
- Lead 06 playoffs in points
- 5th in points since drafted

Ward:
-23rd all time in wins
-Conn Smythe
-World Championship Gold
- 4-0 in game 7s

Cam probably doesn't even make the proverbial Hall of Great or Hall of Very Good.

He may get his number retired someday, so there's that.

That’s what I have gathered mostly, but Ward has a small case if he can reach 350 wins...maybe?
Literally zero chance even if (when?) he gets 350 wins. He would have to win another Cup or two as a starter and maybe another Conn Smythe to just get himself in the conversation.

And as one of his biggest fans, I don't think Staal gets in either. Maybe if he keeps up his career resurgence for another 3-4 years. Probably 50/50 at this point.

Staal easily has the better chance, and increasingly it looks like the bar will be low enough for him to make it.

Ward has no chance at all. Guys like Osgood and Richter haven’t made it. Hell, Curtis Joseph hasn’t made it and he was a high end starter for a long time. The standards for goalies are brutal (or, the goalie HOF actually means something) and Ward is about 100th in line.

I hope we retire both numbers.

I was going to say, I don’t know Osgood’s numbers from the regular season but with 2 (3?) Cups and him being acknowledged as being a huge part of those and not just an “Eli Manning,” no way does Ward go in if Osgood isn’t in.

The “Eli Manning” aspect is exactly why Osgood isn’t in the Hall. He was a backup for the first Cup and won the second as a starter, with an average performance behind a team that was truly just unbeatable. It wasn’t till the third, in 2008 after he left the Wings and came back, that he started to shed the passenger label. But that was the end of his career and opinions were mostly in place by that time.

I agree, I am a huge fan of both, but I don’t think either gets in. I just wanted to see where other Canes fans were at.

I don't think Eric is a HOFer at all. He has sheer longevity on his side and could end up with 500 goals and 1200 points but I just don't think that's enough considering he's not known for anything else.

If he had gained a reputation for being a great captain/leader or had more playoff appearances, he might have a chance.

From forwards in that draft class, I'd say Getzlaf and Bergeron have had better careers, and maybe Pavelski too.

Why is Staal a shoe-in? Just want to hear your opinion, not to criticize.

He's 5-7 on most of the active lists, and he's only 34. And he looks like he has plenty of hockey left in him. Should hit 500/1200 with ease, and then has the potential through either high level of play in next few years, or playing into his 40's.

2003 was one of the top 3 NHl draft classes of all time

I would vote staal in just for having the best offensive career out of that bunch

He’s got 1 Cup to his name and no other accolades. He never really took the “elite” step (or played up to his potential to be elite) to put himself in the group of future HoFers, at least IMO.

LOL,

I think there's a huge gap between the quality of players those three played with and what Staal did.

The prime years of Staal's career were completely wasted with the level of talent he was surrounded by.
