Rules

The time windows will be tight but reasonable.
24 hour clock for round 1
then 12 hour clock for round 2
then 10 hour clock for rounds 3-6
then 8 hour clock for rounds 7-26.​

The ATD will start on January 2nd. I'll post the draft order January 1st. The clock will start at 8 AM on the 2nd, although you can start early. There will be 25 players and a manager on each team.

We are pleased to present the all-time draft - Baseball Edition.

The format is quite simple. A drafting order will be randomly generated. This draft order will reverse every second round (snake draft).

Each team will draft a complete roster, with a total of 25 players and one manager (grand total of 26 draft picks). Each team should have a starter at each position (1B, 2B, SS, 3B, CF, RF, LF, C), as well as a full starting rotation of 5 and a closer. There will also be no DH included within the rosters.

The playoffs will behave in this fashion after regular season concludes.

1 vs 8
2 vs 7
3 vs 6
4 vs 5

Rules

1. Don't mention undrafted players. If quoting a source about a player you’re drafting, simply substitute the undrafted player with XXXX XXXX.

2. The time limit changes throughout the draft. This will be how it runs:

Rounds 1-2: 12 Hour Clock
Rounds 3-4: 10 Hour Clock
Rounds 5-26: 8 Hour Clock

If you are not sure whether you will be available to make your pick within the allotted time, please send a list of players to someone who will be there for that time. This way the draft can progress nicely.

3. You MUST send a private message to the next GM to alert them that it is their turn. This is mandatory and it is crucial to the draft going smoothly. You should also change your board preferences so that you receive an email when you receive a PM. Many have found that this ensures that when it's your turn, you know as soon as possible.

4. Please be advised that it is MANDATORY to vote if you expect to participate in the next All-Time Draft. Put some effort into it. It's only fair that the best team wins. You can make your votes based on whatever criteria are important to you, but we are all expected to have an open mind and listen to the arguments for why each roster is better.

5. The draft is 26 rounds long. Each team will make 26 picks with one player at each position and one manager alongside extra bench players.

6. When making a pick, you should be posting at least three lines about the player. This can be in your own words or copied and pasted from a cited source. This is done for a couple of reasons: 1) To prove that you know something about him/have researched him. 2) To show the other GMs why this is a good pick.

Co-Gm's are allowed and encouraged. No more than 2 GM's to a team though.

A manager who also played as a player, must only be selected as one or the other. This means certain athletes could be selected twice in this draft by either the same or a different team in such cases.

If you select a player who played most of his career at let's say 1B but played for 2 years at LF, and choose him to play left field. You can draft him for either position...however...this will downgrade the players ability. Its a risk that you can make but you have a better chance of winning if you have everyone at there natural position.

You will need to have at least 1 Manager, 1 C, 1 1B, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 SS, 1 LF, 1 CF, 1 RF, 5 SP, 3 RP including 1 closer. No DH. And again like the position players, if you move a reliever to a starter or vice versa, then that will affect how effective your player will be.

FOR PLAYOFFS IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED THAT VOTING IS DONE REGULARLY and if you want to stay for another Baseball ATD then it is a good idea to vote because it will give us the mindset that you care about the draft and not just your team.

Hank Aaron grew from humble beginnings in Mobile, Alabama, passed through the sandlots with brief stops in the Negro Leagues and the minor leagues before he settled in with the Braves where he ultimately became one of baseball’s most iconic figures. He was a consistent producer both at the plate and in the field, reaching the .300 mark in batting 14 times, 30 home runs 15 times, 90 RBI 16 times and captured three Gold Glove Awards en-route to 25 All-Star appearances. Phillies and Cardinals pitcher Curt Simmons said “Trying to sneak a pitch past Hank Aaron is like trying to sneak a sunrise past a rooster.”

But Stan Musial played baseball the right way. Few who saw the Cardinals’ legend in person thought a better ballplayer existed. More than half a century after his retirement, Musial remains the face of a Cardinals’ franchise he helped turn into a dynasty.
Born Nov. 21, 1920 in Donora, Pa., Stanley Frank Musial began his pro baseball career as a left-handed pitcher in 1938 after signing with the Cardinals. But while playing the outfield due to a shortage of players, Musial permanently damaged his left shoulder while diving for a ball.
Musial’s manager, Dickey Kerr, suggested that Musial turn to hitting – based on the fact that Musial hit .352 in his part-time outfield duty in 1940. The next year, Musial sailed through the vast Cardinals’ minor league system before hitting .426 in a late-season call-up with St. Louis.
In 1942, Musial hit .315 as the Cardinals’ everyday left-fielder – one of only two times he’d dip under the .320 mark in his first 12 full big league seasons. According to Bill James, I now have two of the four greatest pitchers to ever live (and he said Cy Young first as he was making his list..)?

Bill James goes even further, making the argument that Paige is quite possibly the greatest to ever toe the rubber:

"So what you have, in Satchel Paige, is a great fastball, great control, a tremendous change, a great understanding of how to pitch, intelligence, determination, absolute composure—and a forty-year career… I think that Satchel deserves to rank, with Cy Young, Lefty Grove, and Walter Johnson, as the guys that you talk about when you’re trying to figure out who was the greatest that ever lived."

Hall of Fame outfielder and Mets broadcaster Ralph Kiner recalled “Tom Seaver was the driving force behind the players, always pushing the team to be better than they were, never letting them settle.”
In 1969, the Mets captured their first World Series championship behind the powerful right arm of “Tom Terrific.” Seaver took home his first National League Cy Young Award that year, leading the major leagues in victories with 25, which accounted for one quarter of the Mets’ wins. Teammate Cleon Jones said “Tom does everything well. He’s the kind of man you’d want your kids to grow up to be like. Tom’s a studious player, devoted to his profession, a loyal cat, trustworthy - everything a Boy Scout’s supposed to be. In fact, we call him ‘Boy Scout.’ ” One year later, Seaver tied a major league record, striking out 19 San Diego Padres including a record 10 consecutive to end the game.
Seaver was an intelligent pitcher who brought great velocity and pinpoint control with him to the mound.
