The Athletic has figured out they can make money off hockey. Toronto was their first market to hit pro forma. Whenever they sign up a hockey writer (Aaron Portzline in Columbus was the latest), they get a pop in subs. Sometimes you start a business and don't know where it is headed. That may be what is happening here and that's real good news for fans like us who love to read. San Fran/San Jose is getting geared up right now and Philly and St. Louis are the next two markets coming on line
