I live close enough to this area to echo what @CrazyEddie20 said upthread. Nobody lives there. It's honestly shocking to see them get a professional hockey team. The town population is a stagnant 8000, and it's not one of those situations where the numbers are somehow deceptive:

It is exactly what it looks like, a tiny Appalachian town with no particular reason to have any pro sports. Of all things, pro hockey is bizarrely out of place there.

It's a beautiful part of Virginia to drive through - easily one of the most scenic drives east of the Appalachian Mountains. But I've never really felt the need to stop off and see what's there, because there doesn't seem to be much.

Since you don't seem to understand what I'm saying regarding Mr. Mirasty, let me explain it to you in a way you might understand.
What is there to understand? I get it, you hate the Fed. That's great. But there are some hockey fans out there who are grateful the Fed has given them a 2nd chance after the AHL or ECHL has left their city. You keep rambling on about injuries. What did you expect? It's beer league hockey! I suggest you watch the movie Slap Shot to better understand what I'm referring to.

And like I said, those "great fans" are marks of the con men running the league. The difference between a fan and someone like me is the difference between a wino and a sommelier. Those "great fans" are the kind of people who show up to professional wrestling and think it's not scripted.

I talk about injuries and workman's comp because players are employees, the hockey they play is work, and they deserve to be compensated for injuries occured while working. If you get hurt on the job at whatever it is you do, your employer is LEGALLY OBLIGATED to compensate you for those injuries and the care you receive for them. I suggest you read up on labor and employment law to better understand what I'm referring to.

So now you say the FHL is "beer league hockey?" Only the product is "beer league." Off the ice, it's a business, and has to abide by the laws of the states and the country in which it operates. I don't think Kirnan, Soskin et al. do that, nor do they have any desire to, and the players pay a price in blood now and/or brain damage later in life for which they should be legally compensated.

Well.

This is a fun thread.

Let's say Mirasty was in 500 fights.

Do you think players like Crosby have been hit 500 times?

David Perron, Andy MacDonald, Geoff Courtnall, etc... are Blues players I watched suffer from concussions, some career ending, and those dudes didn't fight.

So, my question, as we all know a good hard check is more likely to cause a concussion and shorten the life of those involved, do you feel the same way about body checking?

I think, ultimately, body checking will slowly be pushed out of the game just like fighting. And that’s ultimately not a bad thing. Funny how all the fight fans still watch the playoffs even though there are seldom any fights when the cup is on the line, eh? High level women’s hockey is great to watch and doesn’t have body checking. Like humankind itself, the game evolves.

And yet NCAA women's hockey is allowing body contact on the puck carrier, which will put pressure on "High level women's hockey" to adopt the practice. Evolution has many paths from which to choose.

I think you're absolutely correct.

In time the mens and womens games will be indistinguishable and they'll be intergender.

I don't mean that in any sort of negative way. It's just how I see the game evolving.

I don't like the lack of physical play, but, it is what it is. Ratings are up, moneys are up, so, what does my dinosaur ass know right?

And cheers to your consistency.

No, I respect the ECHL. The leagues that stiff players and team employees, those I have no respect for.

The thought of Binghamton having a team or not doesn't enter my mind. I really don't care. I've been to Binghamton twice. It seemed nice enough to me.

You can't grow the game by standing outside a rink firing a shotgun into the air, while yelling, "HOCKEY! GET YOUR HOCKEY! WHO WANTS HOCKEY?" Build an organization that does right by the players, staff and fans in a league that does right by its member teams, and you'll have something that'll grow the game. The reality is that the FPHL is a league run by a bunch of frauds with a number of teams owned by frauds. Sorry if you can't understand that.

But hey, let's go watch Jon Mirasty suffer more brain trauma. It's entertainment, right?
But we need Concussion Trauma League, how else will people in Sheboygan and Houma grow the game?
