For Seney, size is irrelavant. He's proven it over & over.

That's all well-and-good, but it's a numbers game. We have a smaller team. It's likely that to break this team's lineup regularly, you're going to need to be a little bigger. Like Zippy said above, a lot of our core forwards are already smaller. Seney isn't going supplant any of them. He'd do better on a team that's already pretty big.

“Break this team’s lineup”. One of the NHL’s worst teams in the past few years. The regulars are replacable.

Best for Seney agreed if he’s being held back based on size.

It's relevant when it's nearly impossible for the Devils to put together a line for him to succeed.

Realistically, his best line for him to succeed is Zacha/Zajac at center and Anderson on the wing. That's incredibly niche for this forward group. If he's with Zajac, he needs to be solid two-way and not be undisciplined especially if that line is used for matchups.

Which regulars are replaceable for Brett Seney in your eyes? Obviously Jack Hughes would be one of them, as he’s not as good as Brett Seney, as per the original post of this thread....

That makes sense to me. I'd expect Quest for....,I mean Seney, to be able to carve out an NHL role of some sort playing between two bigger wings that have chemistry with him. I think most of us here wish him nothing but success and do hope he gets a chance to stick in the NHL even if it isn't with NJ.

Boqvist, Rooney, Hayden to name a few. He’s out produced all 3. Seney has also out produced ALL Devil prospects over the past 2 yrs. Over the past 8 drafts he’s 5th production wise, in the NHL, of the 37 forward draft picks.

I don't know that I'd consider any of those three to be regulars. I also think you have to define "out produced". For example, didn't Street have a better points per game in Bingo even if he played fewer games? In any event, if Seney could play better than Boquist I'd have no problem letting Boquist marinate in Bingo and give you, uh, I mean, Seney, another chance in the NHL. Maybe with two bigger more physical guys in Hayden and Rooney Seney could add an element if he had chemistry with them.

I never really considered Rooney and Hayden regulars, but I don’t disagree there. They both suck.

Boqvist was outstandingly underwhelming, but really shouldn’t have played in the NHL this year.

Ben Street is 33 yrs old...also not a Devil draft pick.

Hayden and Rooney both on the NHL roster for the entire season......I would consider to be the definition of regular.

Points per 60 mins played with Devils:

Kevin Rooney- 1.00 (19/19.06)
John Hayden- 0.56 (4/6.97)........slightly less productive than Boqvist

I imagine 9 out of 10 dentists surveyed recommend sugarless gum for their patients who chew gum and also recommend upgrading from Rooney and Hayden, but I'm skeptical that Seney is enough of an upgrade there to move the needle on a team that needs so much. Can he play left defense or backup goalie?

When you mentioned regulars and cited the last few years, I guess I just assumed that you were also speaking of players that have been here multiple years, which I guess Rooney could have qualified as somewhat of a regular in 18-19 also.

But I’m thinking of names like Bratt, Hischier, Zajac, Wood, Coleman, etc.

Best argument for Seney:

Since 2012 the NJ Devils have drafted 37 Forwards.

11 of the 37 have played at least 10 regular season games with New Jersey.

Below is a summary of their point production per 60 minutes ice time:

1. Nico Hischier 2.23 (135/60.57)
2. Jesper Bratt 2.19 (100/45.68)
3. Miles Wood 1.65 (96/58.23)
4. Pavel Zacha 1.60 (108/67.47)
5. BRETT SENEY 1.43 (13/9.12)
6. Jack Hughes 1.30 (21/16.13)
7. Joey Anderson 1.15 (13/11.28)
8. Michael McLeod 0.79 (5/6.32)
9. John Quenneville 0.74 (5/6.76)
10. Stefan Matteau 0.68 (5/7.35)
11. Jesper Boqvist 0.63 (4/6.38)

NOTE: A big drop off after #7 (Anderson)

2nd best argument for Seney:

Led Bingo in goals and points. Big part of Bingo’s turn around..... the best AHL team after mid December. Brett handled the disappointment of being sent down like a champion.

Correct. If he can't beat Rooney, Hayden, etc there might be a reason to temper the expectations.
Seney doesn’t pick the team. Management chose less productive players over Seney and others, the result a 26th place finish. Would have been 30th without Blackwood

Simmonds and Hayden mistake additions. Boqvist wasn’t ready.

Seney, Anderson and Bastian should have made the team out of camp.

Maybe he can play forward, defense, in the goal and drive Zamboni on top of it. I wouldn't be surprised.

Am I going insane? Is this not the original post you started the thread with, and I swear I've seen it in at least 2 other threads too.

We get it. Seney is under-appreciated.
