In 1975, the 3 Jacobs brothers from Buffalo paid $10 million ($2 million in cash) for the Bruins and the right to operate Boston Garden and now Forbes says the team is worth $925 million - NOT INCLUDING NESN

Somewhere on a sailboat Westom Adams, Jr must cringe that he sold the team for peanuts to TV38 who quickly flipped it to Jacobs.

Boston Bruins on the Forbes The Business of Hockey List

TD Center is a mid-size NHL arena, but the Bruins make a lot of money because they own the building and have sold out every game since December 2009. This enables the team to profit from non-NHL events like concerts. Not included in our valuation of the Bruins is their 20% ownership stake in NESN (the Red Sox own 80%), one the most profitable regional sports networks. NESN generated cash flow (in the sense of earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of more than $170 million in 2017. The team raised ticket prices 7% on average for the 2018-19 season after two straight years of price freezes.

Detroit is the only Original Six team not in the top six. Somewhat surprised the Kings aren't higher, just based on market alone.

The Kings TV contract is weak and the reality is LA is one market that MLS is more popular than the NHL.

The Bruins IMHO are worth more than the Blackhawks especially if you include NESN ( which Forbes admits they did not do ) and Chicago appears to be headed for a crash and will the pink hats stay around?

The days of complaining about Jacobs/Sinden being cheap are long gone as they spend to what the cap allows. They are upgrading the Garden but much of the renovation money is geared to the Level 5 and 6 crowd which is no different than Fenway and Gillette.

But take a look at the Top 3 teams on the list - The most recent Cup winner are the Rangers in 1994.
